Hi Everyone!
I'm new here and would like getting some help identifying a knife I caught magnet fishing in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. My friend and myself have a Youtube Magnet fishing channel called SLUDGE PIRATES. I am not using this as spam.. we would genuinely appreciate help identifying this knife and perhaps it's age. The knife is posted in some detail on instagram. I'll leave the link here for anyone who wants to help. If I am in the wrong feed please guide me to where my question would be better suited. The knife has spent a long time in the river it looks like, and we can't make out the makers mark. Thank you for your help!! Imgur->

Looks like a custom/handmade knife to my eyes. I can’t see anything clear enough about the stamp to I’d the maker though. It’s sorta like a KaBar or Randall as far as design and materials but the stamp being a n the ricasso means it’s not a Randall. Cool find!!!!

Thanks Bill! Yeah the brass hilt looks handmade.. So you think the makers mark reads Ricasso?
"Ricasso" is the unsharpened area at the base of the blade. The stamp doesn't say "ricasso", it's on the ricasso. The point being made is that, while this has some similarities to a Randall, that's not where Randall puts their stamps.

Cool find - I hope you're able to figure out what it is.

Thank you Tyson! Yeah... just looked it up and learned something.. I might hit up the RMC Museum in Kingston.

Post pics here, not a link to your web page. Use something like IMGUR, its free and easy. Don't use google or facebook, they don't work that well with the forum software.....

Okay! Thank you. Kinda the reason I was worried it would come across as spam.

Cool find, like mentioned it must be a custom, you never know what you'll find I reckon. When I first seen this thread I thought maybe,,,, but your in Canada and I'm in the heartland USA. I lost a custom Emerson in the Mississippi river in about 45' of swirling muddy water if you ever get down south this far. :) Good luck on your future hunts and stay safe out their on the water. Oh! Welcome to BladeForums a lot of good folks around here, Have Fun,

The first step in identifying an unknown knife is to look for and at any markings. OP please take a clear close up photo of those markings near the ricasso.
That may or may not solve your mystery but it's the first best step.
Otherwise, it's like trying to identify the maker of a car from a distance while ignoring the little "Ford" label on the body.

Thank you so much!! We would love to venture south one day, when the boarders open up.

Copy. I will upload a clearer pic.

WOW! It could be it! I really think I see Bizon.. and maybe now the word above it says "Mexico by" even though it looks like "mexico do".. crazy. So this could be a custom knife by Fred Bizon. Very interesting!! Thank you so much! Is there any where to read about Fred Bizon?

I’ve watched a few magnet fishing videos before and looks fun. Never know what you can find. If you find any other cool knives or axes please post them up. I’m sure the creeks around me are littered with fishing knives. Lol. We get people from all over coming here to fish. Good luck and happy fishing!
