Please help me identify this military knife

I bought this knife at a garage sale years ago and have no idea of its value or time of production. I’m guessing by the age of the man having the sale it is WW II vintage. I’ll try and borrow a digital camera to get some pics of it and the sheath.

Here goes: The knife is approximately 12 inches overall length. The blade is approximately 7 inches. Condition is used probably 70% or so. No markings on the blade but the metal part between the handle and the blade says: U.S.N. Mark 2 CAMILLUS N.Y. The handle appears to be some type of string or thin rope tightly wound around the handle and all the way to the metal piece on the top and bottom. The sheath is marked U.S.N. MK 2 on the front metal part (band) and the part where the blade goes in is some type of plastic and it’s a military greenish color. The back metal band on the sheath says: NORD – 4723 then under that it reads B.M. Co 6 VP. AA Anderson USNR is also on the sheath. There is also a green web part of the sheath that has a snap closure on it.

Thanks for any help you can provide me and I’ll get a picture of it up as soon as possible. Do I have anything valuable here or just a regular knife? I know you need to see pics so I'll start working on those.

Hi,

It's a Military issue F-U(Fighting Utility) knife, generically known as a Ka-Bar after one of the companies that produce it in W.W.II.

The scabbard is correct, as it was better that leather for use around water. The handle is stacked leather also. If you are sure it's rope, it might have been cover over at some time(Sailors, etc... sometimes cover their knives with fancy rope work to past the time.):).

Run a search here and in Bernard Levine's forum, and you'll find ton's of stuff:).

HTH:):D.
