need help making a spring clip.

Hi All!

I would like to make my own stainlees steel belt clip for a sheath. I have some stainless sheet stock used to make liners in slipjoints. I tried heating it until bright blue but I don't think it got too springy. I want to use stainless so it can polish-up nice. Can anyone tell me where to get the material I need and how to heat treat it? Thanks!
