Hello all, my first time here so a bit about myself, my name is Gabriel and I'm Active Duty USN. I'm going on deployment to the desert in late November and I need a new blade. what i am looking for is something very similar to the BenchMade 375BK Adamas. But lets be honest who has $140 to spend on a blade lol?

Anyway, I need some advice, I need something fixed blade, simple, light and not gonna make me go broke lol. preferably something easy to conceal under my blouse or in my boot? I am in love with the 375 but can't imagine spending that much on a blade :/

so here's what I am looking for, nothing fancy or crazy style (can't stand the stump or hook blades), but a simple, skeletonized straight blade fixed blade knife similar to the 375. Any suggestions?

thanks in advance!

Gabe.

Good luck on your deployment. I'm moving this to General Knife Discussion.

Becker BK11 or BK14 might fit the bill. They're a bit smaller than the Adamas, but they're also 1/4th the price. If you prefer D2 to 1095 steel, there's also the BK44 (same design as the BK14, just different steel), which costs a little bit more.

You can get the 375 for about $100 shipped from some places that offer discounts on Benchmades beyond the "advertised" price.

thanks Peregrin! and the Kabar 1117 does look very promising indeed.

the Becker Bk's dont appeal to me as much though, but i do like the design.

Planterz do you know where i could find these discounts lol :P

Gpknives and Knifeworks are both authorized dealers here and will either offer doscount codes or simply won't advertise the actual price.

Your delivered price on a BenchMade 375BK is about $102.

Tops Knives Interceptor #301 Police Utility Fixed Blade knife with a 4" blade of 1095 High Carbon Alloy RC-58 steel.

About $60.

You're thinking of the BK24, which is the one in D2 (and has a satin finish). The BK44 is a non-existent knife.

What will the primary purpose of the knife be? Cutting what, how often, in what kind of environment? There is some very specific features spelled out in this category, but it invites asking if this will be for utility cutting or as a back up blade for self defense?

If the former, any good quality 3 1/2 to 4 inch folder will do. Just about any of the ones for sale at the Navex. A concealable blade for under the blouse implies a neck knife in carry, which won't be very handy. Boot is worse, especially self defense. You have to get into a position that is vulnerable at the very moment you need it. Better a folder clipped into a pocket at that point, you can rotate to the weak side and not have your knife hand grappled to disarm you as readily.

Point being, it's either a utility knife ready to hand, which makes it a superior self defense knife, or a self defense knife hard to get to, which is actually worse. That doesn't mean you have to change your perception of your need - if you want a concealed skeleton handle knife, get one. You won't feel better until you do.

Just realize there are other options, it's not always what we think.

very valid points Tirod3... i already have a 3 1/2" folder i never leave home without but i am looking for a back up, environment will be salty humid and hot lol. i wouldnt mind it being clipped horizontal on my belt behind my back for quick access?

You might be able to get your supply chain to provide it for you. NSN 1095-01-609-1271

very good idea Ron. but I'm afraid of being turned down for it since i do not have a direct need. I am in aviation so they will probably just laugh lol!

They can turn your request down just because they feel you won't have a direct need for it? That sounds a little strange, considering you're ordering a knife of all things.

Good luck on getting your blade! I'm more of a folder guy myself, otherwise I'd give a suggestion beyond just buying the Adamas fixed. If it's anything like my folding version, it'll be great. :p

Not sure exactly how much you're looking to spend, but a Swamp Warden can be had for ~$100

just as i thought they told me no... they said "we are having a hard enough time getting uniforms let alone getting you a silly knife." which is crap... but now im tempted with the Kabar 1117... i like it. still like the 375 better but... its a close comparison,
