I need help finding 1000 or 1200 grit shop rolls for extra-fine hand finishing wood handles. Three hours searching on the net...zip. Klingspor, NC has 400 grit, that's it. Supergrit's finest is 500 grit. Would really appreciate a website URL or phone #.

Thanks

Joe, check Brownell's. I thought I saw some recently that were made by a company called "Metalite"(sp?). They were pretty expensive as I recall, about $28.50 for a 1" 50 yard roll. Check their web site at www.brownells.com.

Thanks for the replies. I checked Brownells and found "metalite" also only goes up to 500 grit. I'm guessing that the lack of responses was due to the fact that plus 500 grit (for wood) shop rolls don't exist.

Joe, they exist (or at least existed) because Rob Hudson has a roll of 3000 grit, but he bought it some time back at a surplus store or close out sale and doesn't remember where. I've also been looking, so if you find any, give me a shout and I'll do the same.

Joe,
You could try 3M 1-800-533-6419, their local rep could possibly help you. 3M has a Micron grade product, and size 9 is 1200 grit. I use this product to finish my knives and its a very durable product and I have not found a better.

Good luck
Jeff

I buy sheets from woodworkers supply, down to 2000 grit, .50 cents a sheet or less but you do no use much at that grit. I then cut them down
to whatever size I need.
