Hey guys I am in the planning stages of a grinder build (KMG style). I have everything worked out and im going to be able to scrounge most of the parts, however the wheels (contact etc.) are very expensive, anyone know of an alternative or just a cheaper place to buy them?
Thanks for all the help. This is a great place for a newb like me.

Wheels are very expensive. Check Grizzly out.

A lot of guys like Sunray wheels. I have one for my flat platen on the top so I can grind with it. Check your scap steel place. Some have bins of large caster wheels. You have to change the bearings to hi-speed ones but it's about as cheap as you can get. They usually are around 6" OR 8" and smaller.

If you know someone with a lathe, wood or metal, you could ask them to turn the small wheels for you. You can get sticks of nylon plastic off Ebay pretty cheap. Here's an example for you. (Mods, this isn't SPAM, it's just to show FoxBat what I mean)-

You can also buy your bearings on Ebay if you can't find them local.
No sense paying $60 for a wheel you can make for $20!!

Hi - I saw your other thread too. I suggest that you do not go cheap on your contact wheels. If you don't plan on grinding knives with the contact wheel then you can go with a smaller one for just hogging or just use a platen, if you plan on grinding knives on the wheel, you will want something that is at least decent.

thanks for all the input guys. I have settled on buying a 6" wheel scond hand from a local knife maker (he made me a great deal) and have found a good deal on idler and dirve wheels. will post pics in progress
