Got the 2007 catalog. Could use some help from those experienced in these knives. Here are my questions:

1.) I have knives in ATS34, S30V, D2 and some others but none in VG-10.
How good is this steel?

2.) How does Spyderco Clipits compare to other brand pocket clip knives.

3.) The below knives appeal to me. Any input is appreciated:

a.) C10BK ENDURA4 / C11BK DELICA4 LIGHTWEIGHT

b.) C11 DELICA SS

c.) C81 PARA MILITARY (seems overpriced @ $200...heck I can almost get a
Dozer for that price)

d.) C36 MILITARY MODEL ($200 yikes )

1 - it is a very good steel.
2 - dont know i dont have any other brands really except for some old swiss army knives
3 - i love the enduras. the delicas are just a smaller version really. its your choice depending upon the size blade you want. Look into the zdp steel on these knives.
4&5 - thats the suggested price.. they usually go for around 40-50% less depending on where you shop.

thanks Tony. Where are some of the more reasonable places to buy these knives. Also, what do you think of the stainless steel handle Delica's verses the plastic handles?

Other input +/- is appreciated...

I really like the FRN handled spydercos. It offers better grip and doesn't get too hot or cold. The benefits of the metal handles are obviously the look and the possibility to engrave them. Perhaps a bit stronger as well, but all Spydercos are well made.

As for VG-10, it is great.

well respected places to buy on line are

you can get them a little cheaper here...some people have had problems with him on his ebay store...if you goto his website direct i have never had a problem...i just ordered 3 knives from him last week and rcvd them already..
www.wildeals.com...you can go to this sites good bad ugly section and search his name

as far as handles go...it depends if you want a heavy solid feeling folder or a light...although still solid folder.

Many people have started off with a FRN Delica or Endura and most of them become fans and buy other knives from Spyderco.

The Delica is a nice knife but check out the Centofante 4, it has replaced my Delica in my pocket because it just seems more refined.

I have tried without success to love the SS handled knives. The FRN suits me much better. It is more temperature stable (doesn't feel as hot/cold), gives better traction, and is lighter to carry.

VG-10 is excellent steel. It seems to take a finer edge than S30V, although S30V holds a usable edge longer for me. The VG-10 is also a bit easier to sharpen when the time comes. As has been mentioned, the ZDP-189 is definitely worth a look.

I got my Paramilitary for a bit under $100 shipped. My Military was about $160 shipped, but it is the BG-42 and Carbon Fiber sprint run (MSRP $289 if I recall correctly). Both were well worth every penny, and then some.

In my limited experience (I only own five or six hundred knives) Spyderco makes knives at least equal to anything in their price range, and better than most.

I also echo the NGK endorsement, they are first-rate!

I agree that the SS handled Spyderco are not for everyone. I don't like them and I won't buy them. I have had my fair share of them and they turn an Endura into a MUCH more substantial knife and I have never had one that was glass smooth. The problem is, they are heavy and they are slick. If this is not a concern to you, they are really nice knives. It is just that I feel you can never have a knife too light or to grippy.

I have a fully serated Delica 4 that I have put to good use and I must say that VG-10 is very good edge retention holder and easy to sharpen. If you whant to experience what Spyderco is about (Performance) then go for the Delica first. I was not dissapointed and Sal and Team stand behind theyre products 100%

Spyderco Wayne Goddard is a very flat and light knife for its size and "carry's smalller" than it is. Very utility blade shape and I also like the fact that it has its own integral guard. The one listed was a Sprint Run meaning limited production and if you think you might want one but it before they are gone. My second favorite knife after my Endura but they are vastly different in feel.

I personally like some of the SS-handled models, esp. the Police model, but with the new Endura/Delica4 models having steel liners and all-screw construction, the strength difference may be minimal. I have found that for general use I end up reaching more for a FRN clipit, or G10.

As for comparisons, I like other companies' knives as well, particularly Chris Reeve and Benchmade. For me, Spyderco ranks right up there in terms of pocket carry-time, and I would not feel 'underknifed' with any mid-size or above Spydie by itself. Spyderco Clipits are some of the most user-friendly and practical knives, period.

VG-10 has become one of my top two favorite blade steels. I have knives in ATS-34, 154-CM, CPM 440V, S30V, 440C, AUS 8, 6, etc.; I simply love the wicked sharpness of VG-10 and the relative ease of resharpening compared to some other steels (particularly 440V). It also seems to have quite above-average corrosion resistance as well.

Went shopping to some gun and army navy and sporting goods stores. They had CRT, Benchmade, Gerber, Buck, and a few others but I could not find a Spyderco for the life of me today. I did however confirm that a 3" blade with both regular blade and part serration will do the job. 3 1/2" is more than I am looking for in this type of knife for EDC.

for a 3" blade I would for sure say delica4 or caly 3 depending on budget. I personally would advise against combo edge however. I feel like you should utilize the advantages of either one or the other edge type in this small of a blade. With a 3" blade you just simply do not get enough of a plain edge or spyderedge to be totally useful. The SE D4 has just enough plain edge tip for fine work if you absolutely need the serrations but I would say for EDC use, a sharp, well maintained plain edge is just as effective as a serrated edge. All this provided you aren't required to cut vast amounts of rope, in which case full serrated is the only way to go.

The Delica is a nice knife but check out the Centofante 4, it has replaced my Delica in my pocket because it just seems more refined.

I concur with the recommendation to look at the Centofante's. Often seen selling cheaper than a Delica, these are very much underrated for their utility. They fit well in the hand, offer good grip in a deceptively smooth-looking handle, and have a very good general-purpose VG-10 blade design. I've been carrying a III on my off-time lately, and I've come to like it allot. These deserve a renewed appreciation. They carry lower than a Delica...OK, I'm done.:)

thanks for the input everyone. I ordered the Delica4 C11PSBK in VG-10 from Savon today. Came out to be about $50.00 with the shipping. Looking forward to holding the knife when it arrives and chopping down some trees with it:D timber....
