So heres the deal: I want the sturdiness of an Emerson, but the beauty of a spyderco. I mainly going to be whittling wood, but also use it for self defense. I just want a sturdy EDC knife that serves those two purposes well while being under 150$ and having a 3.5 inch blade.

GO!

Thanks in advance.

Manix 2 xl may fit your bill, though I find it big to edc. It mostly lives in which of my two trucks in driving at the time.

+1 on the Paramilitary 2 - my favorite "after hours" EDC. Too long for my employer's taste, but is pretty much the first knife in my pocket when I get home and on weekends.

My vote would be for the stretch, a close second the Caly. For me the Caly is a bit smaller and so slightly more comfortable in the pocket and a bit more refined looking.

The Caly 3.5 has a serious blade but carries like a Delica with a little more heft. I never thought I would retire my Sage but the Caly carries so much better.

I love the Delica but I think the Caly 3.5 I have is easier to carry. I am on the look out for a 3.0 to try and deep pocket clip for the Delica so I can get a better comparison. But since getting the Caly nothing else makes it in my pocket often.

I love my Manix 2, feels extremely sturdy in hand, i've dropped it from many feet above on concrete multiple times and the only damage is scratches on the G10, one of my smoothest opening Spydercos

I feel ya man. I started with a Delica 4, it got bumped by a Sage 1(I honestly believed it would be there for good). I ended up with a used 3.5 in a trade, it was only suppose to be a catch and release. I never liked the looks of the Caly but after one day of carrying it I won't even carry my PM2 anymore. I never dreamed that I could get so passionate about a lock-back.

I still have not handled any of the sage series but the are on the list of wants. Funny I got my Caly in a trade as well and I love it, even more funny is I traded a Manix2 for it that I really didnt care for and everyone in this thread is recommending the Manix2. :o I have never really cared about lock type, I can close them all one handed. Thats all that really matters to me.
