Need help picking a slaughtering knife!

Really? Iv never thought of a kukri shaped blade for slaugtering. I guess it could work..but I dont think he wants to chop the neck off .
in the book "Ayo Gurkha!" the gurkhas ritually slaughter goats by decapitating them with "regular" kukris. the highlight of the festivities is when a man emerges from days of meditation and prayer, holding a huge kukri, and tries to decapitate a live ox with just one swipe. good harvests, hunts, and general luck follow if he is successful.

now how big a kukri does one need for that?

Why doesn't he use a .22 revolver to the brain? Less pain, suffering, and blood. You can still drain the goat after just as well. Seems kinda barbaric in this modern age.

the only real problem with this is that a lot of people dont know where to shoot an animal correctly. I've seen a horse shot 5 times in the head and still be alive and in a massive amount of pain... Also, I'm not sure if a .22 handgun would be sufficient for all types of animals, a .22 rifle perhaps.

I guess this is the proper way to shoot a goat, on account of their thick foreheads.

Regardless, a sharp knife is still needed to slit the throat for bleeding it, and it should be done as quickly as possible after the goat is shot. If not using a gun then the goat can be knocked unconscious by a blow from a clubbing hammer to the same spot.

Get him to sketch his ideal knife, and go from there. Otherwise you are just guessing, and may buy something less than ideal.

There is no mystery in slaughtering livestock using only a knife. It is pretty simple, sharpen up a hunting knife razor sharp, keep it on your belt. Once you have your animal calmed down and in the right position, then carefully, but decisively cut the throat. I prefer to plunge the blade in below the ear and cut down through in one motion, opening up the throat from ear to ear. Then let the animal bleed out, raise the body so all blood drains out.

That is how my grandfather used to do it. Hanged from the hind legs upside down till it bled. Then, dressed and nothing wasted

These were given to me by a friend who's uncle passed and left him a bunch of knives.
The blades are 10" x 2ml.
I would welcome any information about them.
