Need help picking a small fixed with kydex for construction use

CRKT Ringed Razel. It's designed from the ground up as a utility/construction/mechanic knife. It does double duty as knife and chisel/scraper. Decent steel (9Cr18MoV is roughly comparable to 440C), durable Micarta handle, Kydex sheath, and can be had for as low as $60 online.

Is there a way to carry the Izula on the belt? I would prefer belt carry to neck carry.

Carries on the belt, both vertically, horizontally and at a 45 degree angle. Well, at least if you get a couple of the molle locks for it. Possibly also with just cord.

Another type of carry you should consider is in your pocket. Tie the bottom hole of the sheath to your belt or a belt loop with an appropriate length of cordage. When you pull the knife out of your pocket by the handle, the cord will limit how far you can draw it before it pops out of the sheath. The end result is knife in hand and the sheath dangling down your leg. You can also pop it out of the sheath with your thumb, thus leaving sheath in pocket.

Pocket carry with Izula has worked really well for me like described above.

I am an Electrician and use a Kershaw " Needs Work" for stripping wire, sharpening pencils, opening boxes etc. I know it's not a fixed blade but it was only $20.00 and holds edge really well.

Thanks for the suggestion of the Needs Work folder. I had one of those, but found it didn't hold up to my daily uses. The tip lasted about a week, and then it developed serious blade play. The pivot bolt stripped out in the molded handle, making it impossible to take apart. I have had folders take a lot of punishment, and carry one everyday. I thought I would try the fixed blade route for awhile at work. Thanks again for your suggestion.

I agree with the recommendations for the Izula and Becker BK-11. You can wrap the handles with 550 paracord for a comfortable grip. I have both and they're both excellent.

Here's a cheaper alternative: a Mora Triflex Craftsman. It's differentially heat treated, so it's tough. Cost: about $12. Get a leather JRE sheath for it and you're all set.

* I just noticed it has to be under 3". That's a stupid rule. But there are other Moras and Scandi knives that size.

I'm an electrician and I've had fun with a crk stubby razel. Or better yet get a real graham brothers stubby razel.

It can be used like a chisel or a knife. Plus it has a pocket clip-able sheath which is a very handy way to access the knife.
