need help, screwed up my 21 pretty bad :(

Go for re-profiling it! You're a long long way from needing a new blade, especially if you poke holes in sheetrock…. go for it , you can do it!!! The worst that happens is you get a new blade.

CRK will no longer add a swedge to any knife. I begged and pleaded to add a swedge onto a Large Regular and no dice. I tried as hard as humanly possible and got stonewalled. Sorry for the bad news but it just isn't going to happen. Especially to a knife that never was available with a swedge. Oh, how I love swedges. They look so nice and give a blade such depth and a whole new look. Had a Large Reg with a polished blade and a swedge, let it go like an idiot. So I was lucky enough to find a 2011 Annual with a Swedge and a polished blade. Never going to make that mistake ever again.
My advice would be to send it in for a new blade and you might as well get a damascus blade if you are buying a new one anyways (damascus whenever possible <-----) or send it to a really well known knife smith and try to save it. Or, just leave it be. I remember years ago when I first got my truck any ding or sound I freaked out. A couple months later I was mud bogging it and having a blast.

It really doesnt function as well as it used to, nor for what i use it for anyway, i tried to use it today and the rounded tip adds lots of back pressure to the point where my hand almost slipped off the handle, wound up having to use my leatherman rebar blade. The pics make it seem pointier thaN it is in person. The tip is quite round where it doesnt even hurt to press it to your skin.

unfortunately it looks like ill be paying for a new blade akd keeping this blade as a backup. Live and learn. I did test my umnum in the role i use my 21 for, and was pleasantly suprised at how damn easy that thing blasts through drywall :D, so while the 21 is at CRK, my Zaan will fill its role. Stinks though, already have my large carbon fiber 21 in for warranty work. Now both of my favorite 21's are at the "SPA" while im hard at WORK :(

From your pictures, I bet a quick reprofile of the edge towards the tip with a wicked edge (or any other good sharpener) would bring it right back.

Do you have any quality sharpening services near you? I would take it to them and see what they think. I bet you would be surprised what they say they can do. I bet most of them have fixed worse. My only advice with that would be to make sure they put their edge on by hand. There are too many horror stories of "professionals" destroying knives with grinders, etc... A grinder will also heat the metal too much, ruining the heat treat of the steel.

If you are interested, I would put it on my wicked edge for you as well free of charge to see if it would bring the tip back.

Thank you for the offer corskin.
I wound up sending it out this morning for a damascus blade swap to crk.
They said they will resharpen the original blade as well and try to get it pointy again haha. So when all is said and done ill have a nice damascus user for weekends and hopefully a pointy semi fixed original blade for the same knife.
I like the black Cerakote idea though, when it returns i think im going to go that route for the original blad .
Thanks for all the suggestions.

I would have just left it as is. Didn't look bad at all.
My EDC is a 15 year old lg 21 regular BG42 blade, and the blade is far from new looking.

LG

It wasnt an issue i had with how it looks. Its my work beater blade. The pictures somehow make it seem better than it really is. It was blunt tipped and useless for a lot of what i use it for.

So let me get this straight. If you send a knife back to CRK for a new blade they will let you keep the old blade?

Im pretty sure they will not put a swedge on a 21 blade. Never heard of it happening. I know they used to do swedges on the regular blades if you requested but I'm not even sure if they do that anymore.
Does anyone know do they still do the regular blades? I'll be receiving a regular in the next few days and now I kind of feel like putting a swedge on it now =)

edit : nevermind just saw Brendtechs comment. Thats a bummer. So regulars with swedges are quite unique now.

Are you on a back order for a damascus blade? Or did they have some in stock for your swap right away? What kind of damascus are you getting?

Yes its going to be awhile. Minimum of 3-6 months. There also a sort of waiting list, any knives there before mine get theirs first. Ladder or raindrop, whichever comes first.

To the poster above, yes you get to keep the original blade, i paid for it, it is NOT a warranty issue, i am paying over 250$ for a new blade as well.
