Need help selecting a new "watch pocket knife"

Sarah,
you are not missing anything, and you sure own more #25s than me :p yet I can't see much difference (in terms of use, not pure blade length) between the main and secondary blade on those knives (same for the Case peanut and so on).

Ah, to each his (or her) own, then! I admit, my single-bladed #25s are compelling.

But look again at these:

This is probably my favorite blade combination for any knife (absent a screwdriver/caplifter). The wharncliffe main is easily pinchable and extremely useful, while the swoopy clip secondary's lil' belly (and shorter length) complements the main blade perfectly.

What more could one want? ;)

By the way...you should have a letter in your mailbox :o

Oooh! I love getting mail.

The GEC 25 was my first thought and a very worthy knife: plenty of variation in blades, handles, EZ-Open or Barlow variants too. But at the risk of putting the OP off by banging the same drum here are some other worthies to consider:

All lockbacks and 3"/ 7.6 cm. Queen Shadow, D2 and Zebrawood, Camillus Yello Jaket, RR lockback Barlow in Armour Hide Bone.

Schrade OT-3 lockback in Buffalo Horn

Peanut and Small Congress from RR. Impressive to have this quality of finish and sunk-joints at a low cost.

Slightly over 3" but very slim, 2 blades single spring and covered tang for very friendly on the pocket-linings, CASE Mini Copperhead

However, I've stopped putting knives in the watch-pocket, these pocket vary greatly in size and they seem insecure, I've had some near losses whilst carrying knives in the WP and won't risk it.

Thanks, Will

I have come to prefer two brands of folders.

For GEC, I'll suggest any of the #15's or Pembertons. I have one of each in my watch pocket now: a clip point Boy's Radio and a two blade #6.

I should have bought a single blade #6 as well, but maybe in the future. These came in a zillion different scales (well, almost that many).

Alternatively, definitely BUCK. The Custom Shop can make your personal watch pocket knife if you want something a little extra special.

I have 3 I use
Gec 25 single blade spear
Case swayback jack
Case baby butterbean

All with carbon steel

You guys have all made some great suggestions! I have narrowed the finalist to two: the GEC 26 and the case baby butterbean. They both have a single spring design with two blades opposite each other. (A pattern I really like)
They both come in a variety of handles, and are easy to find. The GEC, from what I have read, can have a killer spring sometimes. The case can be hit or miss with the fit and finish. Is there anything that I am missing that would put one obviously in the lead?? I might just have to get both and do a review!

No new insight for you, other than a few photos of the 26 and a baby butterbean side by side so you can do a good direct visual comparison if you haven't yet. Apologies for the quality of the photos once again; no natural light this late as winter approaches.
Hope it helps.

Useful pix Baldy, thank you.

The 26 is certainly much broader and stouter than the Bean, yet still slim. You get more credible blade on the 26 plus a choice of Clip, Spear or Wharncliffe master. My 26 in Primitive Bone is incredibly beautiful but it sports a monsta spring alright! I can handle it but I favour a tough spring. I'd get the 26 its quality is leagues ahead of that particular CASE pattern which, I must say, I find toy-like.

PS if you like single-spring knives then don't forget CASE's Pen knife in yellow D, a very decent carry.

+1. Will, I know a few people that have lost pocket knives by using this pocket. I've almost lost one myself by using this pocket.

I too have stopped putting a small knife in that pocket. I lost my damascus peanut once in my pickup like that. The seat belt crossed just under the pocket when it was across my lap, and the 'nut dropped down in the crease of the seat. Found it the next day after 24 anxious hours of house searching before checking the truck.

I know Carl, and searching car-seats is no easy task either! But imagine if a knife fell out on a bus or train-seat:eek::eek: aaaarrghhh!

I no longer carry a knife in my watch pocket. I use to carry a peanut there. Now days that pocket is reserved for a small bottle of Nitrostat. If I did carry a knife there it would be this Baby Butterbean.

This one lies down in a watch pocket. Love this little knife, must get one to use :D

Best regards
