Need Help - vg-10 or zdp

I use DMT and has less troubles with ZDP then with softer steels.

My experience has been the same, especially with the reprofiled edges. On my DMT fine, which is all I use for touch ups, it only takes a couple of swipes per side.

ZDP!!!! my zdp blade I can get razor sharp, and it stays that way longer!!

If you don't let it get dull, it's easy to keep sharp. Beat the edge up, and ZDP will laugh at the standard Sharpmaker rods!

Both give excellent performance, especially when thinned out.

all I have is a sharpmaker and I'm not looking to get anything else. so would it be better for me to get the vg-10?

If you keep up with it, the Sharpmaker will work fine. Just don't loose the edge, or you'll be spending a lot of time cleaning the rods.

What are you using for sharpening?

I always hear this complains and ask this question- usually nobody answer...

Thanks, Vassili.

I specifically bought my DTM stones when I purchased my ZDP blades because i knew the sharpmaker wouldn't be able to do it. Once i had my DMT coarse and fine stones dealing with my ZDP blade was cake. I would working on both DMT stones then move to the whites on the Sharpmaker and then strop it a few times.

I use Coarse followed by Extra Fine, Fine is too coarse to stop - 25 microns (Coarse is 45 microns - not too big difference between 45 microns and 25 microns really). Extra Fine DMT is fine enough - 9 microns. White Rods is 6 microns (read it somewhere).

Then I follow with Green Rouge - 0.5 microns. With this combination I can restore sharpness in 5-10 minutes.

Thanks, Vassili.
