Need help with 2.5" - 3" EDC - please read :)

One that has not been mentioned yet is the Spyderco Caly 3 ZDP-189. Great steel in a very well made knife (Moki really knows how to put things together). The edge on mine is almost as thin as my opinels, thinner than any other production knife that I have seen (besides Opinel). It has a wire clip that is deep carry for discrete carry. Here's mine with it's UKPK sibling:

What about the Sypderco Air? All it is missing is the clip iirc. In exchange you get a Great steel, M4.

+1 for the caly 3 too.

The Al Mar nomad has a thin blade stock. Also again I'd have a look at Fallkniven' s folders as well.

Matus,

An EDC is just that, for tasks that come up day to day - a $300+ knife is not usually needed. ( We all want the best, all the time, I know.)

Keep and use the Leek! I have large hands and can comfortably fit four fingers on the handle. The thin blade should slice adequately and the 14C28N steel is closer to ATS-34 than AUS-8. Great fit and finish and you won't weep if you lose it.

If you want to step up a bit, think about the CRKT EROS. The blade is similar but has less drop and more belly - Acuto+ steel is similar to VG-10. The Ti frame is CNC machined and looks great, very thin and light. The fit and finish is great and the frame locks solid. CRKT is known for spotty CC but, in this case they are spot on.

Both of these knives are flippers, but the EROS uses the IKBS system.

The Fallkniven P folders might fit your hand. I like the Chaparral with CF scales for comfortable pocket carry, but I understand the dislike of the choil. I have a Spyderco Worker in my pocket right now. The handle is a bit longer than on the Chaparral, and the blade is hollow ground.

I used to have Caly 3.5 in super blue and sold it - the blade did not slice too well and it was too large for city EDC. I also fid the handle too edgy and too comfortable in hand (just my opinion, I know people love the knife).

The Leek really was an interesting knife - I would probably put in on a short list.

Spyderco Air will be tried later, but I fear it will feel too small in hand (as Mnandi did). I do find that it looks really cool. Should I end up with one I would most probably have custom fit pocket clip.

I absolutely agree that there is no 'need' for a $300 EDC knife, none at all :D

I love the looks and ergos of the Worker, but I did not keep it as it really is not a slicing oriented knife. I miss it as much as the Freeman 451 flipper.

If you're willing to go just a smidge above 3", the benchmade 531 Is by far the best slicer I've ever had. Far better than my small insingo. At 2.1oz it doesn't feel like a big knife in pocket, and the blade has less belly than the standard sebenza. If the g10 handles don't appeal to you, you may be able to find one of the Gold class variants in m390 for right around the same price as a new seb. Plus, you'll get to play with an axis lock. :)
