Can somebody give some help, IÕve got an old Delta Milwaukee band saw with a 3/4 hp motor.
I bought a new Bi- metal 14 tpi blade, Then started cutting some ATS34 1/8 x 1 1/4 stock, I cut the bar into about 7 pieces, hard as hell to push through, then I cut out a couple of liners (416ss), when I went back to cut a blade out of one of those pieces I cut earlier, The blade barely put a scratch in it and I damm near pushed the saw over doing that! What am i doing wrong ? Do i need to slow the saw down or speed it up ?

A variable speed motor works well on a set up like this. You can slow it down for metal and speed it up for wood.I have seen a craftsman bandsaw set up like this and it worked slick......Bruce

When you cut the liners the thin stock destroyed the tips of the saw teeth.
You need to keep 3-4 teeth in contact with the work when cutting or the bite gets to deep and the teeth
get dulled, bent or just plain ripped off.
At the rolling mill plant I had just put a new blade in the saw to cut the end off a 20” dia shaft.
I went to the b room and came back to see someone just finishing a cut on 1/8” stainless.
The blade was 3-4 teeth per inch and was ruined with a 4” cut. Lost 6 feet of teeth.
He got the bozo award for that day.

Thanks guys, you have been a big help, I'll try Slowing the saw down and see if things improve for me.

If you go real slow, you can get away with cutting some thin stuff once in awhile, but you might get yourself a cheap 18-24 tpi blade for liners. Also, it is a good idea to not push too hard when a blade is new. Go a little slower until it gets broken in. It will last a whole lot longer. My saw is set at about 100sfpm, slower is ok, faster is not.
