Hey guys I'm new here, this may be my first post! Lol

I went deer hunting and was lucky enough to score on a beautiful 164 inch 14 point. But when I was gutting my deer I lost my gut hook! I'm wanting to see if anyone here can make me one and if so how much!

I've had this knife set for over 10 years and would love to keep it and continue using it.

It's a Gerber freeman exchange-a-blade. The hook would have to be made to be able to slide into the knife and sleeve!

I know this is a long shot but I thought I would try.

This is my knife set... It's missing the gut hook!

Here is a pic of the complete set!

Actually it is your 20th post.

Having a new blade made for your Gerber Xchange-A-Blad would cost significantly more than getting a new quality knife (either fixed or folding) that has a gut hook.

Time to get a better knife!

Well crap! This stinks! I have loved this knife for so long and has cleaned so many deer....

Not what I wanted to hear! Lol

There's always the possibility of getting a replacement, there's the auction site and putting a wanted to buy add on Bladeforums.

Just a thought.

Grizz

Just buy a new nicer knife... For what you'll spend on a replacement blade, you can get something new with a more modern steel that will perform much better. Trust me, you'll be happy!

I use a Dozier Buffalo River hunter from AG Russell, but they run about $215. If it's in your budget, you can't get much better than any of Dozier's Arkansas made knives for hunting.

At around $100 dollars I'd be looking at:
-Gerber and Buck models in S30V (solid stainless steel which is a step up from their standard).
-Knives of Alaska models in D2 steel (which is a popular hunting knife steel due to it's high degree of edge retention)
-Esee Izula 1/2, the Esee 3 and Esee 4. These are 1095 non-stainless knives though (easy to sharpen and take a great edge, but might rust if not cared for properly depending on use/environment)
-Cold Steel makes some solid offerings, too. They recently switched a lot of their models to CTS-XHP steel which is another solid offering. A lot of people are turned off by their advertising/publicity antics though...

I wouldn't get hung up on having an "attached" gut hook. If you like the feature, a Buck Paklite guthook is effective, flat, lightweight and can be had for less than $30...

Might look at Benchmade Hunt knives??? Look good anyway!,,, I know about your lose!!!,,, left a nice knife on a mountain in Colorado working on a nice Elk years ago!!:( wasn't a high priced one but had been a gift from a good friend for best man at his wedding!the longer you have a knife it seems the worse the loss is !

I'm t does stink! This knife has cleaned and skinned about 90 percent of my deer! I got it when I was 18 for Christmas! I just don't want to give it up yet! I called Gerber they said they would look and see if the have any laying around and would call me back!

The guy said believe it or not we get these back once or twice a month! He also said its just a matter of time and when they get one they would send it to me for free! I gotta tell ya if they do... They have earned a customer for a life time!

For under $100 fox Knives European Hunter offers up a few nice options...

Buck Omni Hunter
Kershaw Lonerock
CRKT Free Range (great handle ergos)

All offer nice budget options that will work well and be easy to maintain...

Or buy a little $10 zip-it gut hook... To go with the Gerber you still got, just to replace the lost insert...

SOG offers a similar exchange-a-blade knife às well...

Don't have to spend a fortune to get a functional blade by any means...

If you want something a bit pricier, the Benchmade Saddle Mountain Skinner gut hook in s30v is a sexy option...
