Need help with Blade alignment problems with my ZT0566

Mine opens very quickly with a nice snap after several weeks of use. It requires less pressure on the flipper as well. Mine came perfectly centered and has remained that way even after several complete take downs for cleaning and some minor mods.
I'm wondering, from the pic, if it is possible that the pivot and/or holes in the liner and blade are not perfectly perpendicular to the liner/blade itself and is causing the blade to kick a touch to the side...centering when tightened but stiff could be a result of "off perpendicular" until tightened then it slips a bit when loosened...

I would send it back for them to fix the problem it really does not matter if it start's to open easier or not it's should still be centering properly in the frame and it is not and what's going to happen when you have the knife for a year and it still won't center it may even get worse.

I was told by ZT Warranty Department on the phone this has been a problem with this knife and it is not normal,I know my serial number is fairly low and is just over 300 and they told me that some of the first ones to go out had this problem but not all of them.

I've had it about 2 Weeks now, but I've seriously spent entire days just opening and closing it. It runs smooth, I just miss that ZING I get from my blur. My friend has an auto BM that springs open nice, so I was expecting similar results. I still love the knife, and if this is how it is, I'm ok with it. Just wanted to be sure it's normal and not just a problem with my knife.

So update. Took it all apart. Polished the washers, blade, and frame where they all touch. I gave it a nice coating of frog lube. put it back together and somehow it's perfectly centered. I'm thinking I had the pivot screw too loose, and cleaning everything up allowed me to tighten it down properly and still open it smooth. Also tried it without the torsion bar and it definitely feels different so I know the assist is working. Happily ever after.

Glad I found this thread! I've been carrying my ZT 0566 for a couple of weeks now.

It's perfectly centered but it requires more effort to open then any of my other Zero Tolerance or Kershaw knives. I've disassembled, cleaned, and put it back together (to replace a stripped standoff) and it functions much better then it first did but it is still nowhere near as good as my other knives.

The knives I'm comparing it to are:
- ZT 0350
- Kershaw Cryo II
- Kershaw Turbulence
- Kershaw Blur

ALL of these other knives open much smoother and with more force then my ZT 0566. In fact, they all open fully regardless of how little pressure I put on the flipper (or thumb studs in the case of the Blur). My ZT 0350 is the smoothest and strongest opening one (after I EDC'd it for several months) but all of them are easy to open and never fail to fully deploy...

except for my ZT 0566. :(

After much work, I've gotten it smooth, but it still requires a lot more force to fully deploy and if I use too little energy on the flipper, it won't open all of the way. I'm thinking about asking Kershaw/Zero Tolerance to send me a stronger torsion bar. If it had one, I'd consider it a GREAT knife. With the current one, it is okay at best.

If you are having trouble with the assisted opening check to see if the pocket clip is pressing to tightly against the locking bar. This would be adding additional pressure against the blade when closed. In the tip up carry it is against the frame lock. Tip down its against the frame. Tip down it also sits lower in the pocket. I had a few issues with mine when I got it Tuesday night. Up and running well now. You should always tighten the frame screws before the pivot screw IMO. I also place a wedge between the frame, to keep the frame lock from touching the blade, in the open position and then adjust the pivot screw. Tighten the pivot screw and then back off till the blade just falls on its own. You can check some of my issues in another thread. Not trying to hijack, only help.

I'm not going to say it won't help in a lot of case by making sure the pocket clip does not touch the lockbar but I know with my second when I heard other's saying this and removed my pocket clip and it did nothing what so ever for my mine at all,not saying that it can't be an issue I just didn't see any result's from it myself.

On my first ZT0566 I had some Hobby Grease called Gorilla Snawt laying around that I had never gotten around to using and it has a very high Teflon content in it and it stays where you put it without being really sticky or tacky and that stuff made the biggest difference for me on my first ZT0566 but did nothing for my second because the frame fit so tight onto the blade.

I think Gorilla Snawt is out of business but I'm pretty sure it's the same stuff or very close to Finishline Extreme Fluoro grease.

As I have said in another reply, my pocket clip was pressing against the lock bar when the knife was open. This is to much pressure on the lock bar. Just touching the lock bar without applying any pressure would not cause any issues. I use a teflon grease called Super Lube. Used it on production equipment and was FDA approved. Not cheap but was a VG lubricant. It is opaque in color. Hope you got your second ZT working right.

I never was able to get my second ZT0566 working right and there was no chance in hell it was going to break in over time it was just way to tight,I also sent in my ZT0560 with it as well as I had a very low serial number one and I had problems with the lockbar sticking and waited it out over 2 months or so and it broke in for the most part but it would still stick every so often and it would really jam up hard if I did not put some pencil lead on the blade or something.

I decided to kill 2 birds with one stone and just send the second ZT0566 in and the ZT0560 in as well as I had planned for the last 2 weeks to send in the ZT0560 to get the lockbar re-carbonized,funny thing this should come up about my second ZT0566 because they arrived at KAI on the 27th of this month and they are being looked at right now and the production Manager was none to pleased with what he seen on my ZT0566 and told the girl up front it should have never left the build only flipping open a third of the way to half at best. The at the front desk said she tried it as well and said it was one of the worst she ever seen come back from not opening right and wondered how it ever left the production line if it really was checked by a worker after putting it together.

That Super Lube do you have a link to the makers site for it, I know the Gorilla Snawt is an off White with a slight hint of Green it and the only reason the guy started re-packaging it for Radio Control Car tranny's was because it worked so well at the place he worked at he decided to sell because it never fling's without adding extra drag,I know I seen a review of the Gorilla Snawt by an online RC Mag and they put a model air plane propeller on the output side of the tranny and a drill on the input side and it spun faster with the grease on the gears then without witch is what surprised the reviewer.
