Need help with BOB(vest)

Thanks everyone very helpful. Anyother ideas closer to the medic vests?
Wade

Google or ebay a search for "Pilot Survival Vest" or "Vest, Pilot, Survival"...

There are two basic kinds that the Air Corps issued as early as WW II... and the Air Force revamped during the Vietnam conflict. These can also frequently be found in really good Army/Navy surplus stores.

The vest has a mesh body with universal sizing and several pockets of differing sizes distributed over the front. Some included a holster sewn on by the owner.

This is comfortable under a pack and over your clothes, can carry everything you'd need to survive in a real SHTF situation, or in case you need to doff your pack...

Hope that helps...

look on ebay for molle vests and pouches everything can be carried on the front and wont interfeer with your pack you can adjust it to ride high so it wont hinder your pack belt.

Well, we are not done yet. Now you all have to help me decide what the load will be. I have a good idea of what I want in there, but I could still use some help deciding on gear. that might be another post, or we could just continue this one.

I want to get some type of a load bearing vest to set up as a all around survival kit to go with my BOB which is my Gregory backpacking pack. So that in the event I get seperated from my pack I will have the vest. But, I want it to be comfortable when I have the backpack on. I also dont want a 'tactical' vest so no AR mag pouches please. Any Ideas???
Wade

Canadian Forces 82 webbing fairly comfortably but manly you could were it under your pack

I agree. Get a Fly-fishing vest, and put your first line gear in it. Its dumb to put that stuff in your BOB anyway; youl be glad you did when you loose your BOB.

For those who dont know, you should ALWASE separate your gear into LINES;

Line 1: Items Absolutely esential to survival. Things such as:
* Knife
* Multi-tool
* Compass
* Map
* Waterproof matches

Line 2: "good Idea" Things to complement your first line gear. Stuff like:
* Gun
* Ammo
* Extra clothing
* Sharpener
* Medical kit
* Personal care products
* Flashlight

Line 3: Extra crap that may or may not be needed, but youd rather have:
* Entrentching tool
* CB/GMRS/HAM radio
* Notebook / Pen
* Binoculars
* Spare cash
* ect.

Line 1 stays on your person at ALL TIMES. Lines 2 and 3 are in your BOB.

And dont forget to "dummy cord" all your gear, or you will loose it.

Good choice of vest, Wade. I already use an Omega vest, its good kit, but mine's the one with three rifle mag pouches at bottom left. I like the mag pouches for use with a flashlight or knife. I made the mistake of buying mine in black though, so it does look "terribly tactical"
Last time I wore it when out with my mates, one of the cheeky sods actually said "Woah, dude! Theres a bomb on the bus!" (as in "Speed"!) LOL

I wouldnt mind but Im sure the Tac guys in "Speed" werent wearing Blackhawk kit. Though, Im sure ALL vests look the same to "sheeple". I use a tan 5.11 vest too, love that but its abit heavy, and my so-called friends then keep asking me if Im "going fishing!"

i've been using a hodgeman fly fishing vest for about 8 yrs,its nice i can modifycontents according
to the season but....one draw back on all vest i've played with the front always seems to drag
down due to a little weight its obvious why but still something to consider.i have one packed in
my truck and my wifes car hangs on the back seat.out of the way

What about those safari vests like that guy Locke uses in Lost? They are on ebay all the time. Several brands out there but they all look the same, i.e 20 pockets, couple of D rings etc.

Search safari vest.

He already got his vest guys, so he doesn't need more suggestions on which to get. Now he needs to know what to put in it.

www.scottevest.com

A street looking jacket that has 20+ hidden pockets, sleeves zip off. Should be able to carry what you need. Has a pouch on the back of the jacket to carry a small laptop or luch for day hike. Bought mine a size bigger so I can layer. All the best, Wally
