Hey guys so i am not a pro but just stepping into the area of going from strictly a hobby to trying to make some profit from my knife making. i haven't sold too many knives yet and its all been local stuff not over the internet. So one thing that keeps coming up is i have had a few people ask me can i coat the blade black or grey or even tan. at first i said no (unless they wanted something like a sandblasted finish) but i got to thinking and some knives actually do look cool in those colors BUT it has to be the RIGHT knife so i started doing some research and came across products like cera coat, dura coat, moly-kote. Now from my research i am leaning towards the cera coat over the others. so i have a few questions first have any of you guys tried any of these products? if so does any one have any positive/negative thoughts on any of them or if you think one is better than the other? Also what about spray guns i dont think i am going to use those little airbrush's i think i will get a slightly bigger gun the main reason is so the spray will be able to be made a little wider so i can hit the whole knife in one pass rather than going back and forth. however i also dont have hundreds of dollars for a gun. on the cera coat site they have 2 the cheaper one (the blue one) i did a search and found the same one on amazon with a few bad remarks one about when cleaning the blue color came off the gun and clogged it up. has any one used this gun? similar problems? any advice on other guns? lastly will those guns work with a regular air compressor? i have a 3hp craftsman air compressor i am hoping i can hook it up to that......really any info/tips/advice anyone has on this topic whether its cera coat or even a different product ANY advice would be appreciated thanks
