need help with fixed blade one liner

That was my first thought too.....never seen a handle like it...the more I looked though...I thought maybe it could be original...maybe the old file handle from the blade or something.

But if you look at the blade condition compared to the handle the blade looks to have seen alot more use than the handle. The handle doesnt appear to have many age or use marks at all. I have been wrong in the past though ;)
Joe will have better info. ;)

Joe may be able to come up with some info. I had a great idea for that blade, but no money to finance my thoughts. I think you got a fair deal on the blade, as long as it's authentic.

thanks, I appreciate it all......I wish these old knives could talk to us & tell us their story. The blade looks old, used, but not abused w/ sharpening though...I think it laid around for many years.

...The fact that I am NOT a fixed blade kine guy and that I probably know more about cold fusion than fixed blade Bucks is pretty well known in these parts...but.....When I saw that knife I got a really strange feelin' in the pit of my pie storage area......like I was lookin' at the past up close and personal......Just remember...He wasn't makin' 'em to sell the handle...That was just something to grip it with...

wow i could not have said it better,,,
if i were buying this at a flee market i would say it wa not not org handle
but it could be... he made good blades and if you come in he would make what you wanted...
yep we need joe to chime in on this one..

I would say that 98% of the old fixed bladed Bucks that I see fit nice and neat into the body of knowledge that we have. Its that other 2% that drives me crazy! :) What I can volunteer is that, imho, the handle looks too perfect to have been made by Hoyt or Al. They were not too interested in taking out all the grind lines and that wood looks pretty smooth.
I have never seen one with a guard like that either. I am guessing that sometime, a long time ago, someone put that handle on the Buck blade. I further guess that the handle came off of something else. Maybe a file like suggested earlier.
I hope this helps.

Like any collection, the hunt is half the fun. On an item like this, I should just be happy having an old blade, but never really knowing the past. The handle was probably second hand, but there is a slight chance, this could be original & a rare one of a kind so far....does that seem like a good way to leave it? Is there anyone else who should take a look at it??

Regardless of the handle or not I would just be happy to have the blade ;)
Enjoy it!!

I'll try to post a picture of where the handle meets the blade this weekend, you can tell its been on a long time. If there is ever a show in Michigan, I'd be happy to bring this to show anyone.

You never know what they may have put on for handle material. Here is another one that may fit into the same type of discussion.

I have pictures of that stag knife in the archives and seeing it again reminded me of another possibility. We know that occassionally Buck would make a blade only, to a customer's specs, and the customer would "handle" it from there.
There is/was one that falls into this category on a certain online auction site right now. Its not as old as the 2 knives shown in this thread.
I have now seen several old Buck blades with handles that did not appear Buck-like, although the handles were obviously on the blade for many many years....makes me wonder.
wh4f had some good advice...enjoy it! :D Congrats!! :)

Can a person send that back to Buck????? What should be done to a origional Buck like that ?
