Need help with Khukuri decision...18" fighter

More beautiful shots. Thanks.
What's the story on the Panchtar? I don't believe I've heard of it. Looks like it may only have one fuller?

From my understanding, 'panchthar' actually refers to that style of blade. It has a profile similar to a katana blade with a fullers.

A Chitlangi handle with a Panchthar style blade = Panchthar Chitlangi.

Well thanks gentlemen (and I use that term loosely but with great respect)

I solved the puzzle - I have an 18" Malla and an 18" Chitlangi traveling here... and am looking for a Gelbu Special to balance it out -

In house for my first week under the influence of Khukuri Viral Fever, I have a 14" Burra Dui Chirri, a 16" Ganga Ram Special and a beautifully wicked 18" Churuwa Ang Khola.

5 a week...'nuff for the time being - :D

gotta find a large Khukuri humador to keep the rust demons at bay

:D I live in one of the most humid environments in the usa, oil them, keep them in their scabbard and don't worry about it. The little bilton has survived a basement, a kitchen with no windows, for the last 8 years and a whole lot of food preparation.

Use grapeseed extract oil on them for now, since olive oil is so darned greasy. If you won't use them for food preparation then an auto shop can help you with something for steel preservation. 5160 steel is what khukuris are made of, if I am not mistaken.

Five a week? You're starting faster than did. You must got the fever real bad. Sound like you've laid a good foundation so far. Let us know about the new arrivals.

Rick

Well, the 17.5" Malla, 20" Chitlangi and 22" Gelbu Speial all arrived safe and sound.

I'm hangin' on to the 20" Chitlangi for the light slicin' and vehicle carry (nice down here in the Peninsular State...conceal carry can be most anything!!! :D

Now...for the trading block - the 22" Gelbu Special and 17.5" Malla....

more....I must have.....MORE KHUKURI'S!!!!!

Grats Mr. Will! All of them blades sound like they would work well. Id have to add that if you plan to do more chopping than killin then the Gelbu Special has the same edge as the Ang Khola. Feel confident with a light fast blade for chopping if it has a chopping edge designed for chopping (GS). Otherwise be careful with the Chitlangi on hardwoods or tougher woods especially the single fuller. The chits are awesome blades and will serve you well but they are not heavy choppers. Stick with smaller, softer, or green woods and you should be fine.
I dont own a Malla but Im confident in the words of Pugs! Id stand behind his opinion any day!

ndog: I might be misreading the dates, but I believe you just replied to a post that was sent 8 years ago.

Ndog, from your photo at the link above we have similar blades. Looks like you have a Panchthar Chitlangi too.

And I agree with your comment about it being "very, very, fast": mine is as well.
