stove that is. awhile back sportsmans guide was running sale on the sweedish mess kit. Long story short i picked a bunch up and gave them out to family and friends as gifts.
They seem to have gone over pretty well as i have not recieved any complaints .from my own experance the burner and stove set up work very well as long as you stick with the odd shaped billy can that comes as part of the mess kit but dosent work with a U.S. GI Canteen cup or round pots
I've ordered a folding sterno stove over the weekend from campingsurvival.com and i'am going to give it a try with my old boy scout mess kit and canteen cup, I'll see how it works have any of you guys tried this stove with the military Trangia alcohol burner or know of any other stoves that this burner will work with . every thing I find online is set up for the civillian trangia Thanks for looking guys.

You can use the alcohol stove with any pot as long as you have a windscreen. Lots of ultralight backpackers use 3 aluminium tent pegs to prop up the pot. I use a windscreen made of aluminium foil, just folded over several times to thicken and stiffen it. Here is what I find an amusing alcohol stove site:

Going by the reply maybe there is some confusion in terminology, the burner is the brass alcohol burner and the stove is what the pot sits on and also acts as wind screen the sweedish mess kit is a sharp oval I'am looking for something I can use the burner in for use with round pots or USGI canteen cup i'am hoping the sterno stove will work but i'am looking for ideas

Here you go Mike...just did a quick check. The USGI canteen cup stove won't sit completely over the Swedish alcohol burner; however, if you dig out a little hole and sit the burner down to the base, you can place the canteen cup stove over the top of the burner and the cup sits and a perfect height. Additionally, the stove stand provide a pretty good wind screen, but I'd still have some tin foil on hand to help if the wind is really bad. Sorry, it was getting dark, so the pictures aren't that good:o

Hardware cloth, available at any Home Depot or Lowes (gardening section), makes an awesome lightweight pot stand. It's flexible so you can mold it to whatever you want. $7 worth will be enough to make about 20 of these things.

Here's a trangia set up I use a lot. It all fits back inside the pot for easy carry.

That's pretty nifty TFin04! I like that, I'm just to stupid to be that creative, the Army in me tells me to dig holes:D

Trust me, I didn't think of it. Ultralite backpackers been doing it for a while. It does work well though.

The stuff is super easy to work with too. Snag a roll next time and sit down with a pair of pliers. You'll work something up.

The one pictured is a square, and the corners hinge. It folds flat onto itself for easy carry. I have a circular one that just slips over the top of the burner which is more stable. Still trying to perfect the square design.
