I was wondering if someone that does machine work could give me a quote on turning down a piece of 5/8 round stock to 1/2 inch on one end and threading it for 1/2".. The shaft needs to be 15 inch long. I have had great luck finding most of the parts I need for my new grinder at a neighbors scrap metal pile but the pulleys and drive wheel are not the same size. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Chris - it may not be what you're after, but it might be cheaper to get a pulley the same size. If you get a keyed pulley, then you won't have to worry about threading. Surplus Center has them for very little money, though they are a little high in the shipping dept. in my experience.

You'll be able to find someone to do this on RFQwork.com... or I could get it done for you at the machine shop I deal with.

I'm guessing you would be charged $30 to $40; typical for a qty=1 job.

Check to see if you need reverse theads if it is for a shaft. For a shafts , it has to be when it is running it will tighten as it is on.
