Alright I'll say this right up front.
This is probably a stupid question to ask & I'm sure it's been explained before - - but - please indugle an od fat man...

Why does that fixed blade knife have a hole in it?

It's a trade mark. With any trade mark it's a use it or loose it situation.

Does anyone know what steel Myerchin uses?

Most of their rigging knives today are made in China. And their site says;
"the finest German Marine Stainless Steel. The Pro-grade German Marine stainless that we use is comparable to 440C for hardness and edge-holding properties with additional anti-oxidation elements added for the final crafting of our knives"
which kind of suggests some high chromium Krupp 4116 variant.
Myerchin still carries I think a couple of models made by "Hiro" Masui in Seki Japan marked 440c, but it might be Aus10.

I carry a mission mbk ti on my kayak , might break budget
Can’t beat Spyderco salt series, I have several of those as well, in H1 you can’t make them rust in salt water, I’ve tried, not need to rinse/clean blade
