I need help catagorizing the major steps of knife making for this chart I am making (I will post it later) into around 6 steps.
Thanks

Select the desired steel type and profile the blade blank (either by forging or grinding
Shape the bevels (by forging and or grinding)
Sand the blade to 400 grit, refining all the details
Heat Treatment ( this hardens and then tempers the blade)
Sand the blade to final surface finish
Make and attach the handle, guard, and any other embellishments

While I can't find fault with Stacy's answer (you did ask for around 6) I think you would find more use out of a list with closer to 30 or 40 steps. I made one up for myself awhile ago from piecing together all that I could read on here and it was big. Remember, there's more than one way to skin a cat so you have to figure out what works for you, your equipment and goals. Take Stacy's list and expound upon it or use the tutorial in the stickies and tailor that. Just attaching and finishing a handle alone can take up many lines of writing.

You have yourself a good idea you should run with and putting it to paper will only solidify your understanding of the process.

I'll help you out more if I can find mine. :(
