. So when i grind with free hand or with a jig the part closest to the handle is low then it goes up up till it hits 2 inches away then it gets lower after 2 inches from the plunge cut. And with the edge the part closest to the handle the handle is thick then it gets thinner thinner till the 2 inch mark then it gets thicker. Keep in mind tho this is with a free hand or using a jig. Thanks for looking and i would appreciate it if i could get some help!

Wherever it's thinner you are doing some combination of holding it on the belt longer than the other areas or pushing harder there.

That looks like the dreaded 2" mark.

while grinding do not place the blade on the entire 2" belt. Grind with the one side of the belt and leave just a slight space so you do not get that 2" mark on the other side.

this^ or the possibility of not laying the blade flat against the belt. uneven grinding leaves uneven grind lines. think of it from looking at the grind as it sits against the belt... any angle at all will cut deeper than flat. this one takes practice.

You can also do a bit of grinding starting in the middle or the end of the blade. You don't always have to start a the plunge and go to the tip

Now when you are close to where you want the bevel to be so full length pulls like that to even things out.

All good info posted above. Steel thats warped or not flat can also cause issues.Good luck,Lu

If my opinion is worth anything then I would recommend that you lighten your touch up a bit and don't be too concerned with the line until you use finer grit belts and then lightly drag the blade across until the line is level and sharp and then turn over the blade and bring the grind to the same height. Try using less pressure on the blade and starting some of the grinds in the middle is always good technique. You will get to where you want to be just by doing more blades. Start your grinding early in the day if you can when your attention is best and the light is good. Don't worry...have fun. Larry
