Ok fellas i recently purchased a ZT 0770cf with dlc coating on the blade, well i was a first time user of a lansky deluxe diamond sharpener and marked the blade up. Does anybody know how to repair it?

You really can't repair the DLC I don't think. Just use it and enjoy

Ouch! I'd never put a knife as expensive as ZT 0770cf on a sharpener (Lansky, Sharpmaker, Edge Pro, stones, or whatnot) that I've never used before. It is only after I tried sharpening knives like Rat1, Tenacious, and Thermite AND achieved satisfactory results did I start sharpening more expensive knives.

OP - don't think you can repair or redo what'e already done. Go ahead use it.

OUCH!!!
Pretty sure Josh at Razor's Edge can coat it for you. Not DLC though.

Well every mark on the blade tells a story and gives it character. If you use it enough like you should all those marks will eventually be covered up and it'll all blend in. Just remember if you carry it use it or just stick it back in your display case with your Humboldt figurines to point at it and giggle with your girlfriends talking about all your armchair adventures you had with it.

Welcome to the forum Rickrod71 you'll find a lot of good info here and a lot of BS too. Remember, beware of the man that owns one knife for surely that man knows how to use it and that knife will surely look used. Those were Jeff Coopers words about a rifle, one of the greatest gun gurus there ever was but the same applies to knives too.

Use blue painters tape- little late but others may benefit. Maybe strip it and acid wash it if it bothers you a lot.

You think they would replace a scratched blade? Literally a brand new knife with a small scratch in the coating, that the OP did himself? If ZT did that I would be amazed.

OP, you could send the blade back to get them to sharpen it from now on if you're worried about scratching the DLC coating. I think that's a whole 5 bucks plus shipping on your end. I like what a lot of other people said about just letting it go and using the knife. Any DLC will get scratched up. If you cut any cardboard it'll happen again. That first nick is always the worst, but ultimately the best. Now that knife is ready to do its job without you being overly/too cautious about doing it.

Per ZTs web site:

We know. Accidents happen. But that's no reason to give up your ZT. Especially not now. We've recently instituted a great new option: you can get a brand new blade for a modest price.

It really took a lot to break this ZT's blade. In fact, to show it to you, we had to use a hydraulic press. Even to just break off the tip, we had to hammer and hammer against an anvil—and the anvil took some damage, too.

But in the unlikely event that your ZT has suffered some accidental damage, we're happy to let you know that we can replace your blade for you and return it in good working order for just $30. This is good on Zero Tolerance folding knives.

Simply send your knife in to us according to warranty instructions. We'll replace the blade for you, then return it to you. These replacement blades will have no laser engraving or markings on them (that's one of the ways we keep the cost so low for this program). Nevertheless, they will be the same steel and sharpness of your original ZT.

And, of course, ZT blades that have broken due to a manufacturing defect will be replaced under warranty, free of charge, as always.

They offered to replace a blade on one of mine for the same price when I inquired about a fuzzy model number marking.

Scratched coatings add character. If you didn't screw up the blade, I'd just use it, mate!

RR, I already mentioned a little touch up with a Sharpie, but now I'm a little curious. Real DLC is tough. Did you nick the DLC with the diamond, or leave a mark on the DLC with the aluminum clamp. If it's the latter, see if you can gently rub the mark off with a coarse towel or even GENTLY with a Scotchbrite pad.

You scratched it. Now you can use it. Use the hell out of it.
