I've started to modify a Cold Steel Recon Scout I ruined. I tried to reshape the rubber grip years ago when I was younger and stupid. The blade is starting to rust too since I removed the rust resistant coating. I want to do stacked leather and acid stonewashing, and I feel that those two won't be too difficult. However I cannot make a pommel, or at least I don't think. I do not have serious tools or equipment and would be mostly using sandpaper and files for finer work.

Any suggestions on how to properly do a stacked leather grip, as well as good epoxy and all that. And any suggestions on how to maybe make a buttcap would be appreciated.

for the buttcap i would use mild steel from home depot, cut out with a hacksaw, drill and file a hole for the tang. there are tutorials on youtube showing stacked leather handles. good luck.

you need a way to attach a pommel to the tang
Threads are good but you need to attach a piece of thread to your tang.
I would make the pommel from a non-rusting metal

Showing pics of your knife helps

or you could use a piece of antler as a pommel, easier to drill out. Stack and glue the leather first, if you don't have a press a homemade one is not that difficult to make. After the leather has dried out, measure, cut and drill the antler piece, one hole for the tang, another hole for a pin. You could cap it off with an old coin, making a recess at the end of the antler piece. Did that to an old short ka-bar heavy bowie and it came out rather nice.

Being that the knife has or had a rubber handle how long is the tang? Post a picture of it.
