Need HT oil

Ok,
Im tired of inconsistent HT results. I guess my OCD is getting the better of me.:)
Here is where I am. I use 10xx steels and some 52100 (though not much) Ordered a PID controller with thermocouple for the forge so I can maintain fairly constant temp.

I have designed a quench tank that has a self contained heating element and temp control, I call it "the old crockpot" ;):)

I have been using the various "panther piss" quench oils (I dont want to get this started again) Let me just say that for me personally I want to use oils that were designed to quench steel not lubricate an engine, but I have been having a hard time finding somewhere to buy them. Could someone make a recommendation?

Again let me say I dont want to start the same old argument over what is just "good enough". Im not the type of guy that can just wing it. I need a plan with predictable outcomes. So far I have not been able to know exactly what my HT has been producing because there are some many variables, forge temp, oil temp and viscosity etc. I feel the only way I can improve is to use a system that is repeatable with as few variables as possible.

Thanks

Sean

Houghton International for Houghto-quench "K" (like Park #50) and Houghto-quench "G" (like Park AAA).

If you can get a hold of houghton quench K its worth it, I can quench a knife at 1450 and in 9 to 10 seconds take it out of the tongs with my hand and handle it. I use it for my 10xx steels, I heard good things about mcmaster carr fast oil too, good luck,Charlie

Patrick, flyingsteel.com , he can supply Parks #50, which is the oil you need.

Should be all a person needs to do to get Houghton quenchants is phone Houghton International. When I bought from them, I was put in touch with regional sales then dealt with the accounting dept. to make payment... 5gal. pail was minimimum quantity.

I don't believe McMaster-Carr's "fast" oil is as fast as HQ-"K" and Park #50. There is someone on this forum who got cooling data from the manufacturer of it, but I have not been able to.

Thanks for the input guys.

I have checked Darren Ellis and his site listed the Parks as out for quite some time.

It looks like McMaster-Carr's "fast" oil may the easiest to find and purchase.
Is it as fast as Parks #50? (Again I almost always use 1084 and 1095, sometimes ATS34 but I have a friend with an oven for that). Is it fast enough for 10xx?

wallter davis on here has been using the McMaster quench oil and seems to like using it. i would send him an email and talk to him yourself.

good luck!
