Need hunters advice

I know it's not a popular choice, but I like the SAR 5 for a hunting knife. Here's a shot of mine.

I notice'd that sar5 is not very popular at all , way is that ? I do not like it allso ,if you ask me one Bussethat I don't like it would be sar5 .
The hunting knife is not for me ,I don't hunt . The knife is going to be a preasent for my ex boss that is retired now and started hunting ( we have dear and hog ..)

Not so popular, you're right. Jerry Busse HATES it; they were actually made by mistake. Some people think it just doesn't look like a Busse. I liked mine, but felt the handle was too thick.

You must like your boss, very nice gesture.

Since it doesn't have to be a Busse, you might ask over in the Hunting forum for a wider range of opinions. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=30&f=846

C'mon. Do we really believe they were made by MISTAKE? I find the SAR5 far better than the SAR4. Pure genius of design, except for that fat G10 handle, which can be remedied.

I'd find a NIB SAR5 around here. If people hate them so much, they should be falling out of trees. I bet you could get pretty cheap on that. It's coated, tho.

Second runner up would be hte SCABS/CABS/MABS/Whatevertheyarecalled.

I don't really hunt but I think this would make a great knife. Yes it's been satin/polished by George and red liners were added. But even a hunter wants to be proud to show off his knife to others :D

I agree the SAR-5 is a sweet knife and IMO its the nicest of the Busse SAR series. I love the handle on it...super comfortable.:thumbup:

This is my SAR5, none other like it. Couldn't love it more. It'll be with me bowhunting this year.

I got to say after 35 years of hunting the best deer knife was the SAR5,,and i cut up alot of deer with alot of different knives It was the best,NOW im glued to the SAR3,Its all you need, sharp as heck and small and light for those long days in the woods,,,,but I still carry my SAR8 for any hunger bear in the area who think im din, din:eek:

these guys are brave suggesting such small knives to hunt with. I would recommend a Busse Gladius. It's got plenty of reach and it's great for ambushing prey even if your sitting in a tree stand waiting to jump on something. It's actually a short sword but it's still more manly and challenging than hunting with a gun or a bow

WOW nice mods.:cool::thumbup:

I've had no issues using an AD, Meaner, GW, and SS4. If you like a little bigger all purpose blade the SJTAC and HG55 worked well for me too, lot of blade though.

Good luck.

My choices...

CABS. Just get one while you can. Period.
Game Warden in .14" or .17". Great little game knife.
SAR-5. The handle is fat, but I'm holding onto one for some future modding.
Safari Skinner. Busse family in D2. One of my favorites. There's also a Rat Hunter that I was never able to lay hands on. May not have looked hard enough because I liked the SS so much.

Game warden works best IMO, it is like it was made for game...????!!!!
