Hey all.I hope this specific question hasn't been asked already. If it has, sorry,I somehow missed it.I've been doing lots of searching & reading here but still haven't been satisfied so I'm turning to you for ideas.
This is what I'm looking for:-factory made(no kit)
- around a 4'' blade,preferably o1 or similar carbon steel
-scandi grind
-drop point rather than spear
-blade thickness in the 1/8'' range or slightly thicker but thinner is better(no baton for me)
Price:ideally under $100 but could go a little more
So far the Enzo trapper looks like a possible.Any other ideas? Thanks,I appreciate whatever insight you guys can give me.

The Trapper was the first thing to come to mind. There are a few makers on here that post Lauri blades with custom handles every once in a while that seem to go for the 70-80 dollar range, but they are thru-tang and straight spined puukos-not drop point. Also, check out Helle Knives-50-90 dollar range depending on the handle and material, but they have some nice high carbon puukos as well.

Some sort of Mora? Somebodies gonna mention it anyways.

Other then that, check out www.ragweedforge.com for a bunch of other nice European scandi blades. I particularily like the looks of the Helle knives.

:EDIT: Thanks for the link to your bro's site AA, pretty sweet blades for an awesome price:thumbup:

BHK Boat Tail Scandi
Enzo Trapper
and thats all that comes to mind right now.

You might try to find a factory second Spyderco Bushcraft.
I picked up a rehandled version in the used forum recently, its fast becoming my favorite knife!
Excellent knife and it fits your specs to a T!

Thanks to you all for the information. There's a couple of things I forgot to mention.First,I'm in Canada,so that can drive costs up quite a bit with customs charges and shipping.
Second,an exposed full tang is something I really like.
I've just been doing the google thing, looking at each suggestion given, and although there are some excellent knives,I have to say that I keep being drawn back to the Enzo trapper.
One thing against it though is the blade length. I'd prefer a little longer. It's listed as 3 7/8'' but looks as if the actual cutting edge might be closer to 3 1/2'',but that's just a guess.I suppose no big deal,it's pretty close.
I'll keep searching for now, maybe something else will catch my eye. Thanks again.

I'm in Canada as well. I've been ordering stuff from the states for decades in my experience 90% of the time there have been no customs fees, (unless you are talking items worth $100 to multiple hundreds of dollars). Even then the percentage is not that bad. Of course thats using USPS and Canada post as shippers. Using couriers UPS and Fed-ex will result in crazy brokerage fees. I only buy from US sellers who ship using USPS. Avoid UPS/Fed-ex!
And oddly its often cheaper to ship from the states than it is from other parts of Canada.
Regarding the Enzo-The cutting edge of my Enzo is exactly 3.5 inches.
My Spyderco Bushcraft's cutting edge is 4 inches.
The cutting edge on the Enzo Camper is a little longer (over 4 inches) but its only available in D2.
However one of the company reps recently promised in this forum that they will be producing an O1 Camper sometime next year.

If it was me i'd track down a factory second Spyderco Bushcraft, or just get a Mora to use until the 01 Enzo Camper comes out.
I've seen factory second Spyderco Bushcrafts sell in the used forum here for less than $100.
And both the Enzos and the Bushcraft can be found as blade blanks for the hobbyist who like to attach the handle slabs themselves.
Moras are available at bensbackwoods and at ragweed forge. Lee Valley in Canada also have a limited selection of moras.
If as you said you aren't going to baton then a Mora should be just the ticket.
Edit: Just in case you do buy the Enzo Trapper Bensbackwoods has the best price i've seen.
There are also some occasionally on ebay as well.

My brother makes scandi ground knives about that size for $75.00 for 1095, and $85.00 for O1. Here's the link to his site http://graywolfknives.com

I've seen your stuff on ebay before. Couple of your brothers' too, I think. Very nice. I think that you guys are going to sell me a knife or two VERY soon. :D Especially since I'm not that far away from you.

Thanks for the info.I already have a few Moras.I'm looking to upgrade though.

cgd160,thanks for the link.I do like that knife!

Get hold of Kris Klammer in Edmonton (search this forum). He uses blades from Ivan Campos of Brazil which would meet your requirements. My Campos Scandi in 1070, with a gorgeous handle by Kris in ivory ebony, is the absolutely sharpest knife in my collection, bar none.

you could do a lot worse than a Spyderco Bushcraft knife. O1 steel, 4 inch blade, scandi grind, and tough as nails.
