Need ideas for this sander

So I scored this free sander and need some ideas. I am looking to make a platform that is 90 degrees to the side wheel. Could I use wood or is that a fire waiting to happen? Any ideas on how I could make one would be great. I have plenty of tools to build something I just don't have that great of an imagination

You could mount it to your bench and the just build a wooden box to mount or clamp in front of it. The box could have a cutout in it a little wider than the width of your disk so that it would sit in a little bit.
