Need info: Buck 119 Opinions and Experiences

Wow! Thanks for the speedy reply. I searched a lot on the 'net after seeing that post as that really got my interest up, but all I could find was the date charts with symbols, nothing about what steel was used and when. 440C would make a lot of sense as to why this knife never rusted badly as the other knives that made some of my trips.

Thanks, Pack Rat. I wouldn't trade this knife for anything on the market today. Forty years of use; what lasts that long and still works as well as it did the day you bought it? I can't say much for the flap style holster/sheath. It is on its last leg!

Robert,, Up top here where the stickies are, look for Joe's 110 data sheet. Its a PDF that you can dl. Which is the only way you can look at it.
In it, he describes the 110's, but also hits on the steels used. Time frame probably goes along with steel used in most or all Bucks knives. At least it is a hint.

Will do. Thanks a million, I had no idea that info was available.

The Buck 119 is a great all around fixed blade knife.I can't think of a better knife of that type for the money.

Midnite your right the fixed blade knives were using 440c during the time of the inverted 3 line stamp ie '72...

The 119 is one of the best "bang for your buck" Buck makes. Their 420HC is surprisingly good. Easy to sharpen to a fine edge and tough. I've seen my friend put his through hell, I've beaten the tar out of my Nighthawk (same steel, just thicker/bigger knife), and Les Stroud even uses a 119 on his show. I really doubt that you will be let down by it.
