Need info on Etching.

Anyone know any good threads they can send me to on how these guys are doing this beautiful black looking etching on the blades?

The etching that give it a Damascus look.
 
Are you talking about making a plain carbon blade appear as a damascus blade or maybe you are talking about a clorox patina? More details may help get some activity.
 
I'm not sure what the OP is referring to either but, I would like to know about making different kinds of patinas and etches if anyone could post some good links. Can you really make a plain carbon blade look like damascus?
 
about the only way, I know right off the top of my head anywaym would be a vinegar or ferric base etch then maybe air brushing cold blueing agent in figure 8's to simulate twist damascus... my .02 anywho

Are you sure they are etching? Shoot up a link of an example of what you are talking about...they may instead be doing some type of steel treatment like Gun-Kote to make the blades black, especially if its to be a permanent black since etched black finishes tend to wear away quickly just like heat-blued finishes wear away with use.
