I'm looking for gifts for my groomsmen. I don't know anything about knives but I think they would make a nice gift. Budget is about $50 each.

So far I've liked the CRKT KISS: http://www.crkt.com/KISS

Not sure if the razor or combination blade would be better?

Also, I wish they would come monogrammed. Any store sell them monogrammed or is that too hard to do? Maybe I can have that done locally? I wouldn't know where to start looking for a store that does that.

Any other suggestions on which knife to get? One groomsmen is a handy man, one is a lawyer and the other two are engineers. A couple go camping occasionally, but we live in a big city so not much practical use for knifes.

Thanks

I think the best knife to get your groomsmen would be s Swiss Army Knife. They have metal handle ones that you can monogram. However...being the knife guy I am I got each one of my groomsman a knife fitting who they were. Yeah its a little odd but I'm a knife guy.

I like this idea, too.

As for what knives to get, I also agree that you can't go wrong with a Victorinox (Swiss Army Knife). There are a ton of them priced under $50, and given what you said about living in the city and not having a ton of uses for knives, your groomsmen would probably get at least as much use out of the other tools (scissors, screwdrivers, etc.) as they would out of the knife blades themselves.

If you want to get them single-bladed lockback knives, I'd suggest taking a look at Kershaw. Their knives are reasonably priced (ignore the prices on the Kershaw site; those are just the MSRPs), high-quality, and backed by a great warranty.

A good online knife retailer that does laser engraving is Knifeworks.

I got my groomsmen a Victorinox knife/flashlight combo and a bottle of their favorite booze. You can always find them for sale. Depending on the bottle you can come in under $50 no problem. Somehow the combination of knife/flashlight/booze seemed right....at least for my friends. :p

thanks for all the suggestions. Now I' a bit overwhelmed.

So far I've also liked:

I've received a couple of swiss army knives as gifts and never really liked them. They were the kind you put on your keychain so they seemed small and awkard to hold. The blades weren't very sharp so even opening boxes wasn't worth it. Didn't really have a use for any of the other tools: scissors to small for most applications, same with screw driver. So I don't want to give a multi tool that excels at nothing and will never get used. Atleast with the larger knives they may never get used... but they look pretty cool and are sharp.

Get em' Benchmade Mini Grips. Best ~$50 knife IMO.

Where are they that low? Best auction price I can get is some make an offer and every one is $59 or more and Id love $50. or maybe you mean around $50, which I might have misread. If you know of one at $50 and $5 shipping, let me know?

My new son-in-law just gave away 10 of these, at my suggestion:

Case AMBER BONE MEDIUM STOCKMAN CV

You can search for the best deal. I think he got them for around $33 each.

the benchmade mini gritilian does look very nice. I also couldn't find it within budget :/

I'm assuming that the groomsmen aren't knife guys,so even the basic model would be good.I'd personally get a plain edged one as opposed to half serrated as a plain edge seems more useful to me and are much easier for someone to sharpen.

victorinox alox cadet or pioneer. felinevet usually has them in a variety of interesting colors, and they're classy and inexpensive with a spot for engraving. also seconding the recommendation of roger at knifeworks, they do in house engraving.

You could have a look around and see which model appeals the most.but the plain leek is still a fine knife.

I wanted to do the same thing. I ended up getting Leatherman's for my groomsmen and I am confident I made the right choice.

Though for a knife I agree that a Leek is worth looking into.

Buck 55
Timeless, 35.00 and in my opinion a very classy knife.
I don't know if they can be engraved.
