need knife recommendation for groomsmen

I think a Victorinox Solo Alox would be great gift. Very classy and sexy ;)
About $25 too! Well under your budget.

Or even a Victorinox Cadet. $20-$30.

I don't get the appeal of Swiss army knives. They look like toys and don't look very sharp. Can someone compare the kershaw leek to one of these?

I suppose with a SAK alox cadet, you do get a little more utility with the extra tools and most people would also consider a SAK to look less "dangerous" than a leek.If you were to focus on the blade alone, then the Leek will be better in every way.

I've had dozens and dozens of Victorinox brand Swiss Army knives (I've never had one made by Wenger).

The quality control is superb.
The blade(s) are invariably very, very sharp right out of the box.

Some models, like the Classic, are small and might look like a "toys".
But they are solidly and precisely made; they last for years.

The classic red Victorinox has become very well known, but most models are available in other colors and materials.

Almost all of the "Alox" versions, which have textured aluminum handles, can be engraved.

i would get the kershaw leek. it is a great knife for the money, available for under 50 dollars. the handle is stainless steel and can be engraved easily. and it comes very sharp.

ok i'm convinced on the leek. Wanted the benchmade but too expensive. Also I was really set on getting it engraved with the individual's name. And under $50, it's hard to beat. Thanks all.

You could easliy get a leek engraved.Your local jeweller should be able to do it for a small fee, that's how i got my leatherman engraved.

knife's just came in. Disapointed that they messed up my order. I asked for the knives to be engraved on the handle but they came engraved on the blade. I think it looks tacky on the blade. I'm looking into knifework's exchange policy :/

I strongly agree with the members who have recommended Swiss Army Knives. I'm getting married in January, and I'm giving engraved Victorinox Pioneers to my groomsmen.

(1) My groomsmen are not knife guys. I don't think they'd start walking around with a folder clipped to their pocket. However, I do think they might keep a Swiss Army Knife (SAK) close at hand, because they're just so damned useful. It may look a little like a toy, but that means it doesn't look anything like a weapon.
(2) The aluminum-handled SAKs have more sturdy blades than the keychain knives that you've been given as gifts. They also come very sharp out of the box.
(3) They've got a rock-solid guarantee.
In my opinion, an alox-handled SAK is the best value for your money. My second choice would be a Case.

Knife knut or not, everyone can use a SAK. Everyone has to open cans etc. In fact, the can opener on the SAK I keep in my desk, is probably the most used tool in our shop. Someone is alway trying to open a can of something or other to nuke for lunch....

I recently had a chance to check out the Boker Exskelibur and I think I may have to go with those for my Groomsmen. I was very pleasantly surprised by the overall quality of the knife. Very solid, but very gentlemanly.

I'm looking for gifts for my groomsmen. I don't know anything about knives but I think they would make a nice gift. Budget is about $50 each.

So far I've liked the CRKT KISS: http://www.crkt.com/KISS

Not sure if the razor or combination blade would be better?

Also, I wish they would come monogrammed. Any store sell them monogrammed or is that too hard to do? Maybe I can have that done locally? I wouldn't know where to start looking for a store that does that.

Any other suggestions on which knife to get? One groomsmen is a handy man, one is a lawyer and the other two are engineers. A couple go camping occasionally, but we live in a big city so not much practical use for knifes.

Thanks

Don't know what the budget is but get them a great value knife:
Opinel No. 6 or any Victorinox

I am getting my groomsmen Case medium, stainless, G10 stockmans. I figure they are befitting as a "nice" knife, and while I like the CV a lot...the stainless and G10 should pretty much last forever, even when they dont care for them like I would. Getting them engraved with their first initial, last name too.

Everyone should own at least one Case.
