Ok, so I am about to get married and I am trying to pick out a good knife as a gift for my groomsmen.

Here are the conditions:

1) Folder

2) Gentlemen's knife that can be carried with a suit but is functional

3) Nice handles, cocobolo or similar wood, or stainless steel

4) Keep price at $50 or below (I gotta buy 8 of the things!)

5) Truly a pocket sized knife, closed length of about 4" or less

Right now I am looking at the Browning presentation folder but I wanted some more suggestions.

By the way, have been reading the forums for several months but just don't post much. I want to thank all of you for aiding in my choice of a new Benchmade Ares. Holy Mama, that is one of the best made and most functional knives I have EVER owned!

8!!!

How much grooming do you need??? :D ;)

A little more information might help. Are you planning to have them engraved? If so, are you factoring that into the cost? How much time do you have to come up with them? Must they all be the same?

BTW- Congratulations, and welcome to the forums!

My new brother-in-law gave Leatherman Squirts, engraved, to the groomsmen. I think it was an ideal choice because a lot of people aren't "knife people." Shocking and scary, I know. Leatherman will engrave them for you. They came out very nice.

I think you'll find that among all the Benchmade knives in general. They don't seem to skimp in terms of build quality regardless of pricepoint.

As far as the give away knives go I'd take a good look at a regular old Buck lockback model 501. They are pretty cheap, very pretty(Don't know what kind of wood), and very sheeple friendly and useful.

Well.., this may not fit your desired Groomsmen.., but I think I'd give Pro-Tech a call and see what David could do for you on 8 Runts or Stingers... :)

He could also lazer-etch something of your choosing on them. I've seen a couple of guys do this for weddings, and it went over BIG!

Yes.., they are "autos" :).., but legal. Heck all guys need a little "thwack" in their lives... :)

Hope your wedding is great!

How about SS Syderco Delica, Quality knife and stainless steel for engraving.

Does it have to be a "knife"?...How about a SOG Crosscut or a Leatherman Micra?

If engraving isn't planned, consider perhaps the Case peanut or mini trapper they are functional and "PC" and around $40@. SHC offers personalized knives for not much more than the standard product.

I thought about multi-tools, but wanted something with a little bit of class. I am in Alabama; not a whole lot of PC action. Most of my guys will be into a nice looking pocket knife, but some of their wives may not be :D

Machete, I must need a lot of grooming because I got 8 groomsmen and THEN 4 ushers on top of it. Gonna be a whole lotta pictures. I just couldn't leave any of my buds out. She only has 5 bridesmaids. I guess some of the guys are just gonna have to share :)

Wedding is mid-July so probably time for engraving. I will check out Pro-Tech.

I gave all my groomsmen Calypso Jr.s, but that goes over the $50 limit a tad.

For >$50, I'd start by looking at Kershaw. I'd go with black Chives or rainbow Chives, the leek, or scallion with anodized aluminum handle. The rainbow Chive probably has the most wow factor, besides being an awesome little knife. The Leek is big enough that it feels like you're giving something more substantial, and you can get anodized aluminum handles and still stay under $50. In fact, I notice that in late June, there is a $52 black Leek coming on board, pretty cool.

IMO the perfect one would be the SS Kiwi or go a little more $ and get the bone or pearl Kiwis.

I've got a Chive and love it! The assisted opennig is lightning fast and is also fun just to sit and play with. :D The Rainbow is really cool looking. Can't go wrong with it.

The Carved Bone Stag series from Queen in D2 are really nice, I bought the Mountain Man Folder yesterday (bigger than what you are wanting) but the Stockman and Pen knives are under 40.00 and look really nice.

Kershaw Double Cross immediately comes to mind.
Classy, functional, one hand opening, double blade, below $50 if you catch a seller on ebay with multiples.
There's a review in the Knife review forum.
That's what I'd get.
Tom

edit: BTW congratulations!!

Kershaw Leek or Chive. both have stainless blades (420 unforetunately) and frames, assisted feature gives it a nice touch, should be able to find The Leek for around $50 and the Chive for around $40. the Leek looks better IMO and will fit a males hand better. New Graham Knives have them for a good price. Congrats by the way!

i also cosign on the stainless steel Kiwi...
