I'm currently in the midst of making a lock back but im having difficulty with the lock up of it. It seems to have front play as if the lock wants to fail and shut without pressing the release area. i have some more filling i could do to it if that is what i need. i just want to get some advice before i take more metal off then i need to. The lock bar fits in the cut out pretty good but i still have like i said before some space at the back of the lock bar i could file more till the blades completly touching the bottom of the lock bar.

Are the edges of your lockbar at right angles?

You want a bit of taper, maybe eight or nide degrees or so, that way it will always self adjust for wear.

Check these books for more detail, you've got to have it planned out before you start

also im having trouble with the blade staying closed it seems to want to just swing open when held verticle.

You need to change the geometry on the tang of your blade to keep it closed and make the lock cutout on the back of the blade square. The lock bar should fit snugly in the blade cutout. You also need a stronger spring.
