The BladeShow was "the straw that broke the camels back"! I am very interested in learning the skills of knife makeing, I just need a place to go(local). I met Bailey Bradshaw at the show, nice guy, he offered assistance out of Jacksonville, FL...but I'd like to stay a little more local if possible. Any schools or makers offering training in the S. Florida area, I'm in W. Palm Beach, FL. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. P.S. Darrel, it was a pleasure meeting you at the show, I was the guy showing off the Damascus Krait you made for me(what a newbie thing to do!)

If you can't find someone close by, I would suggest getting the video by Bill Moran on forging. I watched it last week and found it very good. Also, Wayne Goddard has a video out "The Wire Damascus Hunting Knife, How To Do It". It has things in it that Bill Moran's doesn't. Between the two of them you should be able to get started on your own. I forged the modified fighter in Bill Moran's last friday and was able to forge it to shape. That is the first time I have been able to do that. Wayne's video explains how to set up your hammer's and that is important. My hammer was to flat and left deep hammer marks in my past work. They are a big pain to get out. I didn't know how to forge distal tapers until the video. Wayne also has a booklet on "Basic Bladesmith Information". It has a lot of very good information in it plus plans on how to make a propane forge. Wayne's information costs $62.00 for both video and booklet. If you are interested in his stuff here is his URL: http://www.continet.com/goddardknives . I am not sure where to get the Moran video as a friend of mine loaned it to me. Another great site with loads of information is Don Fogg's: http://www.dfoggknives.com/craftof.htm . Go through 'tools', 'tips', and 'techniques'. A book I found useful when I started out is by David Boye. "Step-By-Step Knifemaking You Can Do It" It costs $16.95 and you can get it through Texas Knifemaker's Supply. (713)461-8632. www.siteblazer.nettexasknife is their URL. If you are interested, you could go to the Bill Moran beginning forging class in Texas. Here is the URL: http://www.americanbladesmith.com/school.html It is a two week class sponsered by the ABS. Maybe something here might help you out.

If you can get time in Bailey's shop I would take it if that is the type knife you want to make.
There are several schools now to get training. Training takes years of from getting good at making knives.
Thanks Brian for the kind words about the Krait. :}
The ABS school , and NRA school are both great.

Take a look!!!

Just a not in addition to Ravenclaw's reference to David Boye's book and book prices. Chiro mentioned in a recent thread about www.bullmancutlery.com and their book
prices. I agree with Chiro, their prices are
the best I've seen.
