Well.. don't we all ? I need to forge round bar stock into flat bar primarily, from round bar up from 1 1/2 to flat down to 1/8. Noise and space is a concern, noise more than space. I'm thinking small rolling mill would be best for this, but want a second opinion. Will something like that work, is a small mill capable of doing this or should i consider small press or even a power hammer?

You will need a big rolling mill or a press. Taking 1.5 round down to 1/8 flat will also require a surface grinder. It ain't gonna' be that flat and smooth.

Small and cheap won't work here - a 20/30 ton forging press and a good surface grinder will set you back between $5K and $8K. Rolling mill and grinder will be near the same.

Thank you. I was looking at links and pictures from this thread. I plan on building either mill or press, but noise factor is driving me towards mill. I have yet to find suitable known steel in flat stock where I live, 1 1/2 inch. being the worst option i found so far, it can be found somewhat thinner than that. This is all in experimental phase for now, I am looking for best options for my current situation. Thanks again

There is nothing wrong with that rolling mill to aid in drawing damascus, buy I doubt it will roll out 1.5" round stock very well. The round stock will first need to be made flat, then the flat rolled out thinner. Otherwise, the bar coming off the rollers may be twisting and curving in all sorts of directions.
