I just started a new thread where those participating in the stabilized burl evaluation can post their photos and results in one place.

Here is a direct link http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=6995961&posted=1#post6995961

Thank You everyone who is taking part. I hope everyone will take a look and let these makers know what a fantastic job they are doing. These knives look great!

All the evaluation pieces have been sent to those who are participating. Thanks everyone.

I just had a dry vacuum pressure injection system custom made for me so I could stabilize burl and spalted woods for knife handles. The stabilizing solution I will be using is Resinol 90C that will be arriving Monday. As soon as it arrives I will be stabilizing a few batches of burl handle blocks.

I was curious if some of the more experienced knife makers would consider evaluating the wood?

Here is what I had in mind; for $5 to cover my shipping cost I would send a good block of stabilized burl. What I would ask in return is that you write back and let me know what you thought of the stabilized wood. I will also be putting together a scrapbook to show photos of what different knifemakers were able to do with the wood.

Please let me know if you guys think this is a good idea and if you would like to try out a piece. I have really good burl, but what I want to know is what you think of how it is stabilized. If you have a website let me know so I can pick out a piece that will be good for your style of knives.

I can only afford to provide 1 block each to the first few dozen people who want to try it out. Thanks in advance for all your good help.

Sign me up for one my website is in my signature, I buy a lot of wood from you guys already and would be nice to have my wood stabilized close to home. Is this Harvey? Where do we send the $5?

To pay shipping, I will send a Paypal money request when the block is ready to be shipped. Or you can mail payment if you prefer. If you email me with your mailing address and approximate size you need I will be able to send a piece that will be best for you.

Hey Mike,
Look me up when you come out and I'll show you how the system works. If you call ahead I'll make sure I am here when you stop by.

Just got my 50 lb. LG running. Am making a bunch of Bowie types with dropped handles. Would love to try some of your burl. A piece about 5" long and 1+ square or so would work. Let me know when to send PP.

I would like to give it a try.

My sight is still being worked on but it is linked down below.

Were are you in Oregon?

I could also give one a try as i am doing some forged bowies coming up and would be willing to try some out. maybe like 1" wide by 1.25" tall by 5" long would work great.

I would like to try a piece if you still have one left. Sounds like a fun project and I can vision a nice lightweight bowie already.

We are in Southern Oregon on the Redwood Highway. About 1/2 hour south of Grants Pass. Stop in if you are ever in the area.

We must have been typing at the same time but you have the faster trigger finger so you make the bowie and I'll make the hunter knife. :D

just kidding you can make a bowie as well, you just cant make it better looking then mine

There have been a few dozen really good makers who have signed up to try out my stabilized burl blocks. I really appreciate your willingness to help with your evaluations and photos of the finished knives. I am anxious to see what you guys come up with. I will be sending blocks of some really nice stuff that you will be proud to use. I think this is going to work out great for both of us.

I was surprised to hear several of you have been buying untreated burl from me already. Thank You. A question I am being asked is if I will be offering stabilizing services. Probably not. I have so much cool burl and figured wood on hand that I will probably never be able to get it all done. But who knows, maybe I will change my mind in the future.

I have several hundred blocks cut to be stabilized so I'm not worried about running out. But, my boss agreed to let me do this for a few dozen pieces and I am already past that. It's his wood, I just do all the work. After talking to him this morning he agreed to let me do this for one more day. I have to end this Monday morning.

If you want to try out a piece send me an email with your mailing address and what style knife you will be making so I can pick out a really good piece for your project. To pay the $5 for US shipping I will send a PayPal money request when the handle wood is ready to send. Probably late next week.

Thanks again to everyone for your willingness to help and all the great advice. You have gotten me hooked on the forum. Now I better get back to work if I am going to get anything done around here.
