Hey All:

I've been hanging around, learning a lot from you guys. In the process, I seem to have "accidentally" acquired 5 HI blades (oops...did I buy those... :D ).

Anyways, I was wondering if someone could give me some info on the HI Everest Katana. I have read some small reviews about the Katana and that it is tough, but does someone have examples of those tests (ex. I was able to demolish a dog house with one swipe or I beat a crocodile to death with the handle... :p ).

So if someone has some details on some tests they have done on the Katana exhibiting its toughness, I would appreciate it (I have already read the review that is linked via the HI site under the Katana). I am eyeing the HI Katana for a future purchase (WAY in the future...after buying recent 26 inch Chiruwa AK, I am in debt. On the plus side, I now have means of hunting my own food...animals simply die after looking at blade... ).

Thanks guys.

(Edited to rename Chiruwa Ang Khola...no pun was intended...but ;) ).

Sorry, no experience...but if you see one show up on the UBBB sometimes daily specials, email me *immediately* and I will check it out for you! :-)

in the future, i would advize all forum members to call the chiruwa ang khola, chiruwa ak, or chir ak for short...
   :p

Hmmm...gotta funny feeling that only Uncle's e-mail address will be working for me that day...

:D

I seem to recall a review from somewhere that said the HI katana was not as pretty as the ones costing much more, but was much stronger.

Do a search.

Searched for 45 mins...got some good information on the blade's toughness and endurance in some interesting tests.

Thanks for the search suggestion.

If anyone else would like to share their experience with the HI Everest Katana, please do. You have a captive audience.

I beat the hyell out of mine. Suck it in the floor boards of my apartment and tryed to bend it... Tryed to cut the arm off my sofa... you know typical abuse. It didnt break, although I could have done it I gained respect for it and learned what it can do. It is a heck of a blade. The only thing is after a lot...and I mean A LOT of abuse the laha behind the guard gets loose and rattles around.

It's a bit homely, but it's built like a rock. My only complaint is that the handle was too big in diameter for me ( 5'4" tall, size 8 shoes and gloves ). A wood rasp and sandpaper fixed that.

Remember that the kamis make khukuris. They do that well. The sword I have looks more like a villager than the usual H.I. quality. Would I depend on it to save my life? In a heartbeat. Would I display it up front with pride - no. It's nothing to be ashamed of, just not real pretty. It's an honest working tool.

For now is in second place to my Tibetan Short Sword, which while being single edged, has a vaguely yataghan shape. It too came a bit unfinished. But it was made for someone my size. Correction - it was made for me and me only.

Hi All:

SamuraiDave, I got a chance to read that review on the blem and it really helped me decide that the HI "Katana" is really tough as nails and worth a buy. If it takes that much abuse to make the gurad to loosen and nothing else, then it proves it is a solid product. Thanks for writing that review.

Rusty, I remember hearing about the handle thickness a few times in my search. Lucky for me (and my lack of skills at woodworking), my hands are larger than most (who says Neanderthals are dead... ). And ugly matters little to me...it should be usable and tough as anything (nice things don't last long in my hands...hence my interest in HI products...).

Until my next Freudian slip...

Never mind Rusty. He's always helpful, but did you notice he takes every opportunity to 'mention' he's 5'4"?

I went a Funeral today and I'm 5' 4"

The Brothers Karamosov is a great book, though a tad thick because I'm 5' 4"

When I last went through the airline check point, rather than wand me they picked me up and ran me through the machine on the belt- because I'm 5' 4"

I asked him if he would hike in the desert with me but he said he was 5' 4"

Well, I've got three rotten disks in my back and I'm going hiking with the little guy someday no matter what he says!!!!

I will pray for you munk. Honest to God, I will.

( But I ain't saying which way I'll be praying* )

* From a Pete Seeger recording talking about him and Woody Guthrie jamming some place - he quoted Woddy's best line about the FBI

"They asked would I fight for my country,
"I answered the FBI yea,
"I will point a gun for my country, but...
"I won't guarantee you which way!"

to the tune of "Rosin the Bow" aka " Acres of Clams".

That's a damn fine idea- and don't forget the back up khuk to the back up khuk, the pocket gun to the sidearm...and ammo.

Political doubt? Role confusion? Changing jobs or career? Or do you just find yourself suddenly at a loss of words? You need more hi capacity mags, and you need them today.

Check out Dan's Ammo - they have used FN metric 20 rounders for $50 bucks for 15 mags, plus shipping.
;) ;) ;)

That sounds great Rusty, unfortunately I am a resident of the PRKA where such death magazines are now illegal. You see, our masters here have determined that it is impossible to kill anyone with a legal 10 rd. mag. Either that or they are so stupid that they think the .5 second it takes now to change 10 rd. mags will "save lives." As*&#les.

I do have a brother in Las Vegas though...! ;)

Every gun seems to have a season. This is the season for Cetmes. Now would be the time to grab one.

But I'll keep my M1A and save the few hundred dollars for something else.

New, in the wrap mil M14 mags are 50 to 60 bucks and I have 6 of them.

I could almost sell the mags and buy a CETME

Please don't tell the secret Revolutionary Council, but I don't own a 16 varient any longer. I admit I feel a little undergunned. Bruise, opinions?

Norm, I lived so long in Ca that by the time I got out a little bit of me was already dead.

Undergunned with an M1-A? Not by a long shot. Wish I had one. I was in the market for one in 1994 when the idiotic crime bill passed. In one day in July of that year Springfield Armory raised their base price for an M1-A from $825 to $1650, and they still sold like ice water in hell. Can't blame them I guess; supply and demand. That was too much $ for me at the time. Even Mini-14's and Mini-30's were going for $800 at the time in the feeding frenzy that followed, and then Klinton made things worse by banning import of Russian steel core 7.62 X 39 for a while. 1000 rd. battle packs of that ammo that had previously sold for $90 suddenly started going for over $400!

6 months later in Jan. 1995 I bought one of the last 10 pre-ban AR-15 Bushmasters in stock from Quality Parts Co. (the 16" Dissipator with full length handguards, tele-stock, flash suppressor and bayonet lug, which BTW is useless with the 16" bbl.) The same exact rifle has been selling for a couple of hundred less just a few months earlier. In light of the mag restrictions of that same crime bill, I invested in 25 30 rd. milspec aluminium mags with the Bushmaster logo and green follower at the same time. I'm glad I got them, but everyone on the planet outside CA can probably buy 30 rd. mags now for hardly anything because the CA ban reduced the price nationwide, although I'm not sure about these particular ones. In CA anyway they were worth their weight in gold for awhile and I was able to make a small profit before the law restricting them here kicked in, and still kept a bunch.

I would love to get a Super-match M1-A or even the M21 tactical rifle version from Springfield Armory, but that is mucho dinero. In December I thought about getting a standard M1-A my dealer had on consignment for $1600, but got a Garand instead for quite a bit less. Probably not as practical as the M1-A but still fun to shoot and a nice piece of history!

Regards,

Norm
