Need More Detailed HI Katana Information

I miss my old tanker Garand...it was a sweet shooter!

I've a couple AK varients too. Norm, I managed a gun store in Ca when the bans hit. Write me and I'll tell you which one.

1600 bucks? As much as that? I coulda sworn it was less. When the bans hit Ca. the prices rose in unreputable outlets; the honest ones just sold out fast. Mags did go up. I remember 80 bucks a mag for some types.

I've owned 4 M1 Garands and wish I had the best of them now. I love the Garand. I sold my m1 carbine though to pay for a Marlin 38/55 I don't regret it too much- I mean, the question; what good is it? is still a valid question, even though the little carbine does have value, you have to wonder at a cartridge weapon combo known for jamming, inaccuracy, and poor power.

I've had two AR's- one a Colt green ban and another hybrid heavy barrel target.

I've also owned 4 SKS's-knock on wood, I may have seen my last. Trouble with the little SKS is that there was no weapon as cheap and good at the same time, I usually ended up owning another after I'd sold the last....

I think paying 200 dollars for an SKS is a little much though, and getting a Russian instead of a Chinese, a 'match' trigger group, etc etc defeated the utilitarian purpose of the great carbines.

An Ak I owned and sold came back to me. And this summer it is remotely possible a Russian SKS might want in my door too, and I don't even need one....

Norm, when the AWB falls, see if Armalite doesn't put the folding stock back on the current version of the AR18- the 180: now that would be neat, and cheaper than a AR too.

I just know in 3 years I'll kick myself for not getting a CETME. It'll be CETME this and CETME that.

Who'd a thunk that a Ruger Redhawk in 357 or 41 would be worth today a flat 500 bucks???

Now, you really want to get a list started, ask Rusty what he owned before a financial crisis made him part with almost all.....that would blow my mind.

I've a friend who if he had all the weapons once owned you could stock a Museum.

PS Nasty- I had a Tanker 308 Garand too!! I'd forgotten...lord what a lot of trouble mine was...glad your's was a good one.

My tanker was in 30-06, and had to be sent back to Fed Ord, but it worked after it came back. I miss it, but I still would rather it go than my SAFN49 in pristine condition. And the metric FN R1A1 on an Imbel reciever can be changed around a bit, where a Garand being altered is heresy/mortal sin/apostasy.

You like your FN49? I saw one a little while ago I may be able to buy. This assumes a never ending payroll though....and we know that isn't there.

The SAFN49 is the Rolex of MBR's IMHO. If you're willing to feed it's 10 round fixed magazine with clipper strips, that is. Mine is in 7x57. Others come in 30-06 ( fairly rare ) and 7.65 Argentine, and I'm unsure if any were made in 8x57.

< be aware that the "fixed" magazine has a button which releases it. If you hit this button the magazine will fall free and disassemble itself at the same time. It will not hold cartridges in it until after you reassemble it and put it back into the rifle. Despite this the BATFE has ruled it a "detachable" magazine and considers it an "assault" rifle while giving the Garand and SKS a pass. >

My FN metric R1A1 is a better way to go, with it's 20 or 30 round detachable magazines, but the 49 is a work of art.

The problem with the 49 is it can take a cartridge slam it into one already in the chamber- or did I hear this from my good gunsmith correctly? He too feels it a work of art- or at least something that would last through many generations of hand me down. That milled reciever is something- like the sides of a battleship.

Too bad it's not chambered for Nato, but soon even 308 and 223 will be obsolete.
(though not in my lifetime)

I remind myself occasionally that the illustrious HK went to stamped recievers. And we're going plastic next step.

Speaking of HK- did they get the MX8 contract already? It's a done deal? How did this happen? Why in heck give the Germans a contract, why not Remington or Ruger or Marlin?

I don't care what any one thinks of Ruger- they are with HK in metalurgical research and would build a gun lasting a lot longer than HK. And they're owned and operated in the US- Hk is opening a US factory to build these things, but we know where the corporate profits are going.

Very few other industrial nations do this- allow a competitor such an important contract. I don't understand this.
