  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Need my first fixed blade for edc, recommendation and pics please

For the same price as the BK14 you could get a Schrade Pro Hunter 2 that has a sheath and a real handle . Both knives are 7" long . The Schrade is made in the U.S. also and can be bought for about $40 .

Spyderco Bill Moran with upswept blade or Spyderco Perrin Street Bowie: will probably cost you close to $90 rather than $50, but totally worth it!

The OP suggested EDC, but gave no budget nor did they express conceal-ability concerns. So anything from 2.5 to 10" is on the table I guess. For me a comfortable EDC with horizontal belt carry is 4" Survive GSO 4.1. Very capable, and probably the best kydex sheath I have ever owned. But I do not carry this to the office.

here is one of my earlier post

Something around the bk14 or skyline size

I would like a sheath included with the $50 limit. That is why I'm leaning to the bk14. Has a sheath I could Paracord to my belt or I can by the clip attachment for only $10

I also may use it deer or elk hunting so the shape of the BK blade looks like it would do a good job

The BK-14 is a good choice but it has a poor sheath that you will have to adapt to your use. I like the BK-24 better. (I have both.) You will want to purchase at least the factory handles that are sold to fit it. It turns a knife that is effectively just a letter or box opener to a useable EDC knife. That means more money. Of course you could wrap the handle with paracord which helps but not as good for using.

The way I carry the BK-24 is inside the factory plastic sheath and in a back pocket. Works okay. But I have a Dozier Personal fixed blade with his horizontal sheath that is my favorite EDC fixed blade. Of course, it is much more expensive.

The Spyderco Moran mentioned above is a very good choice both for hunting and as an EDC. I really like this knife and have had it for a couple years. It will exceed your budget, but you get everything you need for an EDC. No sheath modifications and no handles like the BK-14/24. I carry the Moran from time to time as an EDC with the handle tilted up at about a 30 degrees on my weak side. It is still very concealed and easy to get to.

Wolverine, it sounds to me like the BK line will give you what you need, if you can sort the sheath out. You might find a kydex bender who has them, but it will likely add around $35 to your total. You can make one out of leather, but after you buy the tools and everything you need, you will have more than $35 in it. But then you can make more sheaths in the future. I applaud you for going fixed blade. So much more capable than folders, and they are open as soon as you unsheath it.

I would definitely get an Esee Izula. You can get one for $48 from the knife connection (they are a paid dealer right?) and it comes with a good sheath.

3x your price range, but I just got, and love the Spyderco Street Beat by Fred Perrin for EDC. Great sheath that can go vertical or horizontal. In your price range, Becker BK11 is a nice neck knife, easily sharpened, plus bottle opener handle.

Cold Steel Mini Pendleton Hunter...3 inch San Mai (VG-1) stainless, kraton handle, drop point, great kydex sheath. Sorry...not horizontal carry. Sturdy little pitbull of a knife.
