IMP
-6.125" oal 2.5" A-2 .156" thick 3.38oz

TUSK
-7.1" oal 2.95" (2.88" cutting edge) A-2 .170"thick 3.5oz

Story behind the need... other than an addiction that many of us share for barkies... I attempted to do some wood work that required a much smaller knife (classic lite hunter)... slipped up... barkie bit me... me thinks it's time to cough up the change for a nice small barkie for when I want to do the smaller work.

I'm leaning towards the IMP but am unsure about that false edge on top. Would one still be able to split small sticks with a light baton?

Why I favor the IMP is that stout point... It's the same thing that makes me hesitant about the TUSK.

Why I like the TUSK... so many damn reasons and my only drawback is the lack of point... which in turn is why I like its functional capabilities. sounds crazy i know.

Well, any and all input is welcome.

How about the Scalpel II as another option ?

How about anyone with medium-small Barkies showing some pics so us non-Barkie owners can get some ideas of size comparisons !!!!!

Bumping this back till we get some pics....I know they are out there !!!!

I will post pics of the Scalpel II when I get home. It's my new EDC fixed blade...but it wouldn't be my only knife in the wild.

Did you look at the custom wharncliffe?

I have both an IMP and a TUSK. I have carried both as EDC knives and I have done a lot of work with both.

Both of these knives are very well made, stout little fellows. They are both capable of very hard work, limited only by their size. I like the blade shape on the IMP for general EDC. The TUSK is a really good carpenter's knife or utility knife due to its sheepsfoot blade. When I do carpentry I always have the TUSK with me. I use it for notching and marking.

For dedicated wood working, I would go with the TUSK. It makes a very good pull-cutter, and pushcuts are easy also. The point is plenty pointy for good piercing, also.

I like both knives. The only thing I would change about the TUSK would be the handle, which I would like to be more like the IMPs handle, that is, straighter with no taper from back to front.

Hope this helps.

And here it is compared to a 3 5/8" when closed (I think) Queen copperhead

I currently have a TUSK and a IMP. I once had a CLH. I would have a very hard time defining the TUSK as being much smaller than the CLH. Yes, it is a little shorter but it is heavier and thicker with a wider blade.

I do like the TUSK and it probably sees the most use. The point is not fragile and the contoured handles are great.

The colonial patch, PSII, MiniNS, Kephart Companion, Fingerling, and Pro Caper are also good Bark River models that i would investigate.
