Need new metal cutting bandsaw; Anyone have experience with Jet 8201k 14"

I have that saw, and it is a good saw. However, it won't cut steel...if you read the info it is for cutting "NON-FERROUS METAL". It doesn't get slow enough for cutting steel, and the tires and guides are fine for wood dust, but not going to last with steel shavings.

Stacy, which saw are you referring too? The saw I'm talking about has a switchable gear reduction box and blade speeds of 39, 57, 78, 107, 142, 196, 278 and 3300 SFPM.

Maybe I have a different model, then. Mine was two speed, but it was called an "wood and metal cutting band saw". I'll have to go take a look tonight.

I just googled the model number you gave and it isn't the same as mine. Sounds good from the specs.

I have that exact same saw and love it. It's a real space saver with the 2-speed gear box. In seconds I can be cutting wood, kydex or other soft materials at high speed. I usually just leave the bi-metal 14tpi blade in place all the time.

I had an old 14" band saw and mostly cut aluminum on it. I got it from an old friend and after years of spending most of cutting work, it broke and I have to get a portable band saw for myself. My needs changed. Happy with the saw that I have at the moment but I'm looking on the Wilton wood/metal band saw, do you think it's okay?

Ordered the Jet 8201k (#414500) bandsaw today. Should have it early next week. My area is just crap for used machinery and there has been nothing come up in several months that wasn't completely used up or way overpriced. I like the size of this machine and the fact that I don't have to run it on 3-phase. I will give a full report after I've had some time to form an opinion on it.
