Thanks Shappashappa said:I.G. Try an outside afternoon or early morning shot (3:30 p.m. or 10:00 a.m. or so). Slightly overcast is even better, cuts down on harsh shadows.
the sun is a great light source. I think your indoor light might be too bright , hence the washed out colors.
Also try moving your point of view more foward, so you are looking down the blade slightly.
Erasers also work well for propping up knives. Cut them up in small shapes and wedge them under the knife.
Keep trying!
Yep!!! That sounds cool.Kiwi303 said:Now that is a NICE Picture... next step, show it lying on a goat skin in the field after a hunting trip it got used on![]()

Thanks Dan. Where have you been hiding?????Daniel Koster said:the background is still too light. Another problem is that it's very "clear". The background should "fade away" and become unnoticable - will draw attention back to the knife.
The knife appears "flat" and "dull" (in photog terms) - not enough contrast. I've had this problem with other knives I've photographed. Best way to solve it is to prop it up a bit like Ed Caffrey says, get a medium-gray/green/blue colored background and (if you have it) switch your camera to portrait mode.
Do you have a tripod? If so, mount the camera a little farther back (10-15 inches) and zoom in on the knife. That will help with the contrast too.
I know this probably doesn't make sense "why", but it does work.
You better leave them goats and sheep alone and go to town.Kiwi303 said:I'll have to try using my 7.2 Mpx cam, I've so far just been using the 4 presets and adjusting the indoor/outdoor toggleHave to empty the memory card first tho... and I ain't been to town for a couple of weeks :X
