We aren't in Whine & Cheese or Pirate's Cove, and you aren't my doctor.

You come right out and state "I didn't have time to confirm but I'm 90% sure that CRKT is mentioned negatively a number of times. " Mentioned negatively by whom and for what apparent defects? You are criticizing the entire company because some people don't like some models.

Nobody around here knows everything. When you know you don't know, stop talking and listen to the people who do know.
 
I have the Opinel and it works great for me as my EDC. Also, yes - you do need two hands to open. However, it looks as though you live in NYC like myself. As such, this is a pretty "sheeple" friendly knife. One more note, if you get stopped in Penn Station or elswhere - you may be ok.
