Need reccomendation

I

I go to a military school in Kansas, and I just need something that would be seen as more of a tool than a weapon.

They're really vague. They just say no weapons. I use knives a lot, and I need to find something that they would just see as a tool.

Im just spitballing here but did you consider asking the powers that be whether or not its okay to carry for example a small Spyderco or SAK?

It would behove you to ask in advance.

The consequences might be dire, if you are caught carrying an illegal item.
Schools - any kind of school - tend to not go easy on anything perceived as a weapon these days
(Yes, I appreciate the irony of it being a military school:rolleyes:)

Although everybody here can identify with being an avid knife carrier, I agree with many of the responses that carrying a knife is not a good choice if carrying is against the rules.
The problem is, you re not sure if carrying a small utility knife is against the rules. I recommend you ask the head off the school if it is permissible. And if so, what would be allowed, such as a small Swiss Army knife.

If they are "sensitive about carrying anything that can be used as a 'weapon'..." does that include things like a pencil, ink pens, keys, books, laptops ...
Pretty much anything can be (and has been) used as a "weapon".

Follow your school's rules and regulations for carrying a knife or a blade. (Especially in Kansas) Getting expelled is not "the worst that can happen." You could wind up spending quite a few years in prison if you violate the rules/orders and/or laws (either Federal, State, County, or Municipal, or a combination of the four) they are operating under.

I am inclined to agree .. I think the best thing to do is have a discussion with someone that can give you direct correct information ...

and straight out ask if you can carry a SAK or any type of knife or multi-tool on campus ... and follow whatever they give you as an aswer ... trying to skirt tye regulations in your situation could result in some very serious consequences including being kicked out of school and brought up on charges ... and it's not worth any of that

For what? I would imagine that a regimented military school is going to provide you everything you need while attending, or provide a limited list of items you will need that you need to get yourself.

While on campus, what would you need a knife for? Have they told you to use a knife?

I think the main concept with military schools is kinda to learn to do what you are told, is it not?

Asking is the only sure way to handle this. I would pick a slip joint such as the SAK as the subject matter, ask if it was permissible, and why you think you need it. The SAK is about as low intimidation as it gets. If they won't grant that it is unlikely they will grant any. If your real lucky they will explain the rule and you may be able to expand you choices. Regardless -follow their ruling
Best of luck

Initial military indoctrination is designed to obliterate your civilian conditioning so that you can be reprogrammed to military needs . Having a weapon too handy during this process might NOT be good , even if allowed !;)

I go to a school that is very sensitive to any tool that can be used as a weapon, but i always like to have a knife on me. What is a good knife that is either discreet, or so low profile that I couldn't get in trouble?

Please elaborate upon "I always like to have a knife on me"

That could be for a number of reasons. For self defense? For utilitarian purposes?

If it's rooted in pragmatism, a Swiss Army Knife Tinkerer is an absolute go to. It has everything you could ever want and more. Something more "flashy" and "high-end"? A titanium Leatherman with a S30V blade. Cool tip - If you take out the screw driver tool on the tinkerer, it functions perfectly as a "spiked fist" weapon in a dire situation...just saying.

If you're worried about security, perhaps a kwaiken? They're usually just about as thick as their handles and pretty discreet overall. However, if it were me, I'd just carry some mace.

A Benchmade Osbourne collab should be GTG as well. Have had mine for many years. Very small with considerable blade length.

Military school with a no weapons policy? Not familiar with that kind of "military". Yes I know the big thing they teach is discipline, not weapons training. But that only leads to the next things.
Student at said school looking to circumvent school regulations? Didn't sound like plebe year was this fall.
Asking BF for advice on staying in line with school regs???

Schools here in my state have "Zero tolerance policy" that got a Straight "A" honor student at a public HS suspended because they forgot about a box cutter they used at work was in their pocket one day. Zero tolerance policy = zero thinking.

Had a cousin who went through the air academy. Plebe year they had lines set in the concrete they had to walk on everywhere across campus (90 degree corners only) and told him how many times to chew his food before swallowing. Of course only after using the proper form to bring it to your mouth in the first place. Back ramrod straight, arm brought to horizontal, elbow at 45 degrees.... The idea of him trying to get a "tool" that wasn't a "weapon" would never have occurred to him or be considered as acceptable by his CO. Would have been out on his ear, probably turned in by his room mate under the honor code.

Follow the rules to the letter. Not worth it to screw around in an environment like that.

Now having said that, get a multitool. There are plenty that have quite good blades on 'em and a traditional multitool doesn't register as a knife to most folks, even though they're aware it has a knife blade. It also provides loads of utility for other tasks and if people notice it they're a lot more likely to think of you as handy or prepared than weird or psycho.

I'm hearing a lot of multi tool. Ill get that. Thanks.

Ask first before carrying. Don't ask us. Ask people in positions of authority at the school. If they say no, learn to live without while at school.

I do like to carry but when I was at school (in a city, not a rural area) I had no real need for a blade. At all. If you need to sharpen a pencil, do it with a sharpener. I don't think you will be doing much yardwork at a military shool.

The thing is that us, knife nuts if you want to use that term, are constantly looking for excuses to use our knives. I am sitting at the office, typing on my computer, writting MoM's from past meetings, arranging yet moooooore meetings,... but still, I do have a ZT 0562CF on the desk, just by my bottle of water. It was used this morning to peel an orange, and my coworker used to quarter an apple. But we could very well live whitout a knife here.

Probably you don't NEED a knife, but you choose to USE a knife or look arround for task to do with a knife to justify yourself to others about WHY you carry a knife.

Let's get real! And don't get a in trouble. If after asking you are allowed to carry something, carry a SAK or multitool.
