I need a small folder for edc. It is for a friend of mine to open cardboard boxes at work and such things. I said I would talk to the knife gods.

It needs to have one handed opening (thumbstud or hole) smooth opening Preferably smaller than 4" closed, at around 3" would be good. Sleek, and with good steel, s30v, 154cm... and more gentleman like than tactical.

Smaller than the Native or that would have fit.
Fallkniven U2 would have been perfect with thumbstud or Axis.

I serched Benchmade and found the closest thing the 705. The mini Grip is too large. Needs to fit in the small pocket of Jeens.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

how about a spyderco cricket??

The kershaw leek is a slim, smaller knife in a variety of blade steels. It is 4" closed though.

How about a boker knife? Subcoms and Keycoms are both really small. Benchmade makes an auto benchmite which could be cool.

spyderco Delica, dragonfly, or a boker subclaw, trance all make good box cutters.

oh yeah, i forgot about the subcoms. those small boker subcoms and the different variations of it are awesome little knives. i have the subcam, warcom, and the subclaw. lots of cutting power in a very small/slim package.

Try Wally-world, etc, for a Kershaw Scallion - I carried one in the watch pocket for years. It got washed a lot... I'd forget it was there! I started carrying a Native S30V in my other front pocket - much better, as it was always sharp. I finally learned how to sharpen knives - I got a Spydie Sharpmaker - so my Scallion is a razor again. Newer, ie, post 8/07, Kershaws use a better Finnish steel.

I'll second Chad's designs for Boker (subcom, and so on). Small and very ergonomic. They have a pretty tactical look, but they can be re-handled easily for a classier knife.

Swedish, and it's Sandvik 13C26. Some models have always had this steel, but the ones that used to use 440 steels moved over to Sandvik.

Thanks to all. Lots of veryuseful tips. The Spydie byrd series and the Gerber mini fast look very good.

The Chive and Scallion still have 420HC. They didn't get the change over.

How about a Centofante/Onion. Nice little knife with a 2.25" blade.

Delica 4, V-10 steel and I got mine for fifty bucks. Get the stainless steel version PE if you want it to look more classy. Cant go wrong with that knife.
